Review

"This comprehensive book on the trees of Canada makes identification easy."

-- The Examiner (Peterborough, ON)

Product Description

Ten years in preparation, this is the most comprehensive book on the trees of
Canada and the northern United States ever published.

Trees In Canada features:

  • 136 range maps in Canada and reaching into the United States to southern Pennsylvania and northern California.
  • A new easy tree-identification method in which trees are organized into 12 groups based on leaf shape and arrangement along the twig.
  • Keys for both summer and winter identification.
  • 580 colour photographs and 1600 drawings of special features useful for identification.

Trees In Canada builds on the popular Native Trees of Canada (out of print), which,
for 8 editions and over 75 years, guided amateur naturalists and forest science professionals in tree identification.

Trees In Canada is an essential tool for the amateur naturalist and forest science professional, landscape architect, student, or teacher, and a collectible for all those fascinated by trees and forests.

The description "this is the most comprehensive book on the trees of Canada and the northern United States ever published" may well be true. I am always pleasantly surprised to open this book. A handy-sized reference that balances high quality colour photographs, line drawings and well written text.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected!, Mar 26 2012

This review is from: Trees In Canada (Hardcover)
Being the owner of a large acreage property with several tree species, I was looking for a guide that would help me identify our trees easily, and this book did! I LOVE the grouping references on the inside of the covers, it immediately gives you a cue as to what type of tree you're looking at. What I didn't expect and was pleasantly surprised to find was the tree name in french on the identification pages. What a great nod to the Canadian culture! Great book full of information, a great reference to keep for years!
