Product Description

From Amazon.com

One of the most prolific as well as one of the most popular pianists in jazz history, Oscar Peterson simply dazzles the listener with his melodic flourishes and glib orchestrations. He makes it all look so easy to accomplish as he glides across the piano, but his technique is always impeccable. In this instance Peterson is in the rare position of presiding over his own tribute. Live at Town Hall is an all-star lineup paying homage to the master at the New York venue in 1996. Sharing the stage with Peterson on this set are vocalists Shirley Horn and the Manhattan Transfer, Clark Terry on trumpet and vocals, Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone, Roy Hargrove on fluegelhorn, Milt Jackson on vibraphone, Benny Green on piano, Herb Ellis on guitar, Ray Brown and Neils-Henning Orsted Pederson on bass, and Lewis Nash on drums. --John Swenson

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, emotional night showing love for Peterson., April 7 1999
By A Customer
Recorded before a live audience, the love and affection in artists and audience alike for Oscar comes through the music. There are upbeat tunes and melodic songs to break the mood. The highlisht of the night and the disc is Cut #10 which is a horn solo by young Roy Hargrove on "My Foolish Heart" with the brillant bass of Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen. You will feel the TLC from Oscar to all his listerners on this work.

i love this Cd...Oscar peterson is a treasure of a talent, and the musicians and other artists on this Cd are wonderful. I randomly heard the Route 66 cut on the radio and loved it, so i searched for the Cd and am glad i found it. Rt 66 is a song that has been performed by so many artists it is hard to believe there could be another version that can re-delight the listener--but this one does! Live performances are fun and you can tell the musicians are enjoying every minute of it.
