If you have an expensive item you want to protect, or line noise from other electronic devices this is the best way to go @ 3850 Joules, it exceeds manufactures standard on almost all devices. Not everyone needs this type of protection. I have a Smart Strip, I bought to control interacting items so I am shutting of all the equipment that is used at that location at once.It also eleminates line noise.
Through out the rest of my home I use different Belkin protectors, depending on how much protection the items need, I have relied on Belkin Products for years. My PC and some of its components are on a Tripp Lite UPS that not only allows the PC to shut down normally during a power outage, but also shuts off the monitor and sound system, et al when I shut the PC off.
In the future I plan to install a Tripp Lite UPS on my flat screen tv, so it and the cable components can shut down together, and I will use the Tripp Lite Surge Protector for my audio equipment. In the past year, one of relatives had an electrical problem that wiped out almost everything in his place, I had told him he needed to protect his stuff, he never did, I helped him save some of the components and when the electrican finished, we installed surge protectors on almost everything. I also know that the US Military uses Tripp Lite in some installations, as someone, at a party was checking out my flatscreen and connections and mentionsd to me that he used Tripp Lite metal, in whatever it was that he did for the US Navy.
All of the products I mentionted, are available from Amazon at very competitive prices.
