This book examines temptation in daily life and studies the nature of indwelling sin in the lives of believers. A believer's first step toward spiritual wholeness begins with recognizing sin and realizing it's constant pursuit toward us. Our hearts must be examined continually as we are inclined toward evil. It is sin that wars against God's grace and rebels against God.
The sad tragedy is thinking you are fine when you are not. Failure to see the sinfulness of sin can abolish the fear of the Lord. A distracted mind, it states, is prey to evil, concealing the truth. Signs of danger are given that bring about moral decline which include the following:
- when reverence for God wanes
- when the simplicity for the gospel is forgotten
- being passive regarding Satan
- harboring secret sins and failing to repent
-neglecting private time with God
God will test man, the book recounts, to reveal his heart to that person and Himself to them. You will come to understand temptation in a new way both in how it affects you and in how God intervenes on our behalf.
Temptation can overtake the mind when it becomes fixated on the temptation discounting the help available in Christ. It can wear down the defenses in an individual.
This book should be read slowly and thoroughly as the concepts need time to saturate in order to gain the optimal purpose by which it was written. I would recommend this read for church leadership and those somewhat anchored in Christ.
