This book contains the first two stories in a series of four, they are loosely related, using characters from the previous story. While this ties them together nicely they are wildly different, but each a gripping story. I could not put these books down until I had read all four stories, and they are on my "re-read regularly" shelf, and they have to be pretty darn good to make that shelf. If you are looking for books with really sensual characters and situations that are believable, give this writer a read. I don't care at all for her later books about boxing, but her earlier books are all great.

TROUBLE: a good read even the second time around Sept. 13 2011

TROUBLE (HQN) by Linda Howard is actually two previously published books in one. I'm not sure I realized this when I added it to my shopping cart but it wouldn't have mattered because honestly, when I see a book with Linda Howard's name on it I automatically buy it. Yes, I am a big fan.

TROUBLE contains the books MIDNIGHT RAINBOW (1986) and DIAMOND BAY (1987) written twenty-five years ago under the name of Linda Howington. I think both are now out of print.

I'd already read the books in their original format but I enjoyed the stories regardless.

You might not expect the stories to be able to compete with her current work; after all she has had twenty-five years to improve her craft. But I think these two stories exemplify the inherent good story telling Howard gives her readers from her very first book to her latest.

Is there something in one (or both) of the books which ages the story? I didn't feel there was anything in the books that shouted "1980s" to me. One thing I noticed - there were no cell phones. In one scene, they searched out a phone booth to make a crucial call. No biggie. After all, I still remember phone booths.
There was no mention of some of the high tech toys popular in some books today. But, who needs advanced weaponry when you can kill a man with your bare hands, when you have charismatic, testosterone- packed alpha heroes like Grant Sullivan and Kell Sabin.(Great names, huh?)

The perfect alpha heroes: fearless, tough, sexy, confident with a pinch of vulnerability to make them human.
Her heroines weren't too shabby either. They weren't kick-ass tough, but they were strong and brave, diligent and intelligent, the perfect match to their mate...which after all, is what a great romance is all about.

If you are looking for a sexy, romantic suspense book pick up a copy of TROUBLE

Two Great Classic Linda Howard Stories... but Oct. 29 2011
By Parker Mackenzie - Published on

I have been reading Linda Howard's novels for years and Midnight Rainbow is an old favourite (5*) and Diamond Bay (4*) runs a close second. In fact I bought "Trouble" as my old copy of Midnight Rainbow has seen better days. Still a great read but I was disappointed to see that the epilogue which appears at the end Midnight Rainbow is missing from this reprint. It is only a page of text but acts as a sweet ending to Grant and Jane's story. I can't see why it was left out of the story in "Trouble" whilst the original epilogue from Diamond Bay does make the cut. Nevertheless, they are still two great reads with heroes to fall for and heroines to admire - Enjoy!

INTERESTING June 13 2011

I have always been a big fan of Howards work, and this book was not an exception, steamy lovemaking, bad guys that give you a chill and a good ending.

Macho hero May 30 2011

This is a great sequal to Midnight Rainbow. Sabin's character is very "alpha male" and Rachel is a good match for him. I really like the dog's qualities, too. The story is a little weak, but the characters make up for lack of depth in the story line.

Oldie but goodie Aug. 13 2013

I've been looking for these books for years. I had read them ,and as with a lot of Linda Howard books, I wanted to re-read them. I couldn't remember the names so I was very glad to find this. I do wish that it was available on kindle.
Both books are stand alone but some characters are in both. As always Linda Howard is one of my top three authors along with Karen Robards and Julie Garwood.
