I've been using metal steamers for over 30yrs and never had a problem with them. Although they eventually fall apart for me they've each generally lasted about 5 to 6 years. Not bad for under $10. I finally thought that I'd get this silicone steamer, mainly for my no stick pots. Also, the metal ones have that centre post and in some pots the lid wouldn't fit properly because the steamer was just that bit too high. For those two reasons I got this one. Hated it. I had a problem clicking the handles together. It flipped and flopped around way tooooo much especially once it warmed up from being in the pot. It was like handling a freshly caught fish. Had a hard time getting it out of the pot because of the "wiggly" nature of the beast. I hated it so much that I pulled out my metal one again. The Trudeau silicone one is now in a bag I'm filling with donations to the local charity shop. Someone might actually like the thing... but that someone sure isn't me. Waste of money.

I have been looking for a steamer that is easy to take out of the pan.I tried the stainless steel ones and they fell apart in a short time. I tried another silicone steamer and the handle was short and made it difficult to take the steamer out of the pot without burning ones hands. Finally, I found the one I was looking for.
I can use almost any size of pot I have. It is so easy to take the steamer out of the pot. Once used,I can toss it in the dishwasher to clean it!
I use it every day and have been very pleased with it.

Less than ideal

It's got some problems, unfortunately.
POOR FIT
It has to be squished awkwardly into my standard 8" saucepan, with edges/bottom rippling, legs slightly bowed, and the handles pushing the lid off the rim a bit. The result is uneven cooking, and (because steam rapidly escapes) scorching the pan bottom.
ODOR ABSORPTION
Scorched broccoli water smell has permanently absorbed into the material, after extremely minimal usage. It's still stinky after 3 days of airing. Soaking it overnight in vingar, ammonia, and bleach (each, separately! mixing ammonia and bleach can be lethal!) has had no effect. Since silicone doesn't normally absorb odors, it has me wondering whether the factory substituted inferior material.
SMALL HOLES
About 3 out of 4 holes are slightly bit bigger than my wire strainer's. A pain to get food particles out of there. It seems unnecessary, since I've never had a problem with veggies falling through the larger holes that are standard in the metal steamers.
Two stars because this thing does steam food, after all. So it serves its purpose in life. But this is going away, to be replaced by something else. Too bad. On paper, this was a really good idea. The carry/lift handle, and the lack of obstructing center post, would have been particularly useful. Oh well.

I didn't expect to like this product, but I use it all the time. It definitely beats using a metal one. It doesn't rust, doesn't get hot, doesn't scratch the bottom, and fits all my medium to smaller pots.

I previously used the metal steamer but had to make sure it was dry before I put it away and when pulling it out of the pot after steaming it was HOT!!!! This silicone steamer fits in a couple different sized pots. And it is not HOT when you put it out of the pot. Washes up quickly. LOVE IT!!!!
