Book Description

Jun 1 2010

This companion to the wildly popular HBO series True Blood is at once an introductory guide to the first two seasons of the vampire saga and a treasure trove for the legions of true believers who follow the show. Created by Alan Ball, the Oscar-winning writer of American Beauty and creator of HBO's cult ensemble sensation Six Feet Under, True Blood surpassed The Sopranos as the largest-ever audience for a cable show at more than 12.4 million viewers a week. It has revitalized the career of Oscar-winner Anna Paquin and has introduced international audiences to Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgård, and Ryan Kwanten and an extensive, award-winning cast. Exclusive interviews, in-depth biographies of cast members, an episode guide, and behind-the-scenes anecdotes flesh out the fictional characters as well as the actors who inhabit the roles. Some of the underlying themes of the series—such as the politics of race, sexuality, and gender—are explored, and chapters on paranormal phenomena and the literary and cinematic histories of vampires are also included. In addition, this analysis offers an introduction to author Charlaine Harris, whose popular Sookie Stackhouse novels were the inspiration for the television series, as well as a discussion of the role of the fan base and social media in the phenomenal rise of this television sensation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Fans of the Series May 22 2010
By Book Sake - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I was so excited to read the ARC of Truly, Madly, Deadly that I dived right in and forgot to stop. Fans of True Blood will delight in reading every imaginable tidbit of information on the series and the stars. Interviews with the author of the book series the show is based off of, Charlaine Harris and the writer for the TV show, Alan Ball add to all of the information you could ever want to know.

There is an episode by episode breakdown for the first two seasons, which includes things like "Paging Dr. Creepy" which lists the most "cringe-worthy moment of each show". True Blood fans will delight in knowing the locations where their favorite scenes were filmed and why each episode is named after a song.

Wilcott also included a lot of information about vampires, citing folklore and other favorite films, some of which even a vampire loving girl like myself has never heard of. For the many tech-savvy fans there are pages and pages about True Blood mania that is all over the web, from role playing on Twitter to all of the fan web sites. This is a book that fans will refer back to time and time again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Skip it. Aug 5 2011
By Elizabeth Wilson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Truly Madly Deadly Boring! True fans of the series do not need episode by episode breakdowns which shed no new light on anything nor are the less than informative interviews with minor characters particularly interesting. The endless tutorial on the history of vampirism is obviously an attempt to flesh out this meager offering. Far more interesting would have been a frank study of how Alan Ball turned a poorly written and juvenile series of books into compelling television.
