Book Description

May 1 2011
A free-spirited straight man, Ziggy, becomes sexually active with Josh, a shy gay man. Josh has a lot more to offer than he's ever been able to show. Ziggy's generosity and genuine affection allow Josh to express feelings and desires he's never shared with anyone before.

It all begins when Ziggy rescues Josh from a couple of scoundrels. Then he offers Josh a place to crash. It'll mean sharing a single bed, but Ziggy says it won't be a problem.

Their journey together and their increasing intimacy lead to erotic and pleasurable, even joyous, sensual experiences. One of the men leads the other away from labels and expectations -- and more than once, both men experiment with something new, together.

The friendship they share is extraordinary. If you could have a friend like this, would you even want to be married?

"You think they were planning to rip me off?"

"Yeah, it looks that way," he said. "But with those two, who knows? They might have thought they could f*ck you over in more ways than one."

"Jeez! I guess it's a good thing you were there."

"You're damn right it was! God, I hate it when people take advantage of somebody like you. The bastards."

"Somebody like me? What do you mean?"

"Aw, man, you know."

"No, really, what do you mean, someone like me?"

"You know," he said.

"No, tell me."

"Innocent."

"Innocent? Me?"

"Yeah, you. And naive. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Hell, dude, all you need is someone to look out for you. Teach you something once in a while. Look, you don't know it, I can tell you don't know it, but you're special, okay? You are. Guys like you don't know how special you are."

"Uhh . . . I'm special 'cause I'm stupid?"

"You're not stupid. You're smart. You just haven't learned all there is to know about how things work, that's all. There's no shame in that. And you're humble, too. You're handsome as hell, dude, and I'll bet you don't even know it, do you?"

"Oh, jeez. I'm not handsome."

"Yeah you are. Good-looking, and good-natured. Hell, you must have figured out by now that I like you, haven't you? F*ck, no way was I gonna let those guys take advantage of you."

It's easy to find pretty good stories in the m/m genre but it's not nearly so easy to find excellent ones. 'Try Anything Twice' is excellent. Josh and Ziggy are delightful characters, the kind that get under your skin and make you keep reading to see what happens next. They're the kind of guys you'd like to have met when you were young and you can't help wanting to read more. It's one of those books that really needs a sequel, not because it's incomplete but because the characters are just so likeable that we don't want the story to end.

Josh is the gay guy. He's been in an emotionally abusive relationship in Memphis but he's been slow to realize this. And then, on a weekend trip to St. Louis with their friends, Josh's partner ends the relationship and leaves Josh behind. But Josh has met Ziggy at a club and when he goes back he reconnects and that's the beginning of a remarkable relationship.

Ziggy isn't gay but he's also not exactly straight. In fact, it's pretty hard to categorize just what he is except that he's a guy wise beyond his years, a guy who turns out to be just what Josh needs as a roommate. First Josh agrees to stay for only a week after which he'll decide whether this is going to be permanent or not. But long before the week is up it's clear that he and Ziggy just simply click. He's the older brother Josh needs to help him get his head on straight and he's also the object of Josh's erotic fantasies. Ziggy has had an amazing past and he's able to give Josh the kind of support that Josh needs to build his self esteem.

The relationship that is described largely in dialogue between the two characters plays out in a little more than a week. It's quite a feat of good writing to put this much dialogue into a novel and still maintain the reader's interest and this author succeeds amazingly well. It's all so natural and such an easy progression that one looks forward to the next day's instalment in the knowledge that the young men are moving further ahead toward an inevitable good conclusion.

Since they're just guys living together, and sleeping in the same small bed together, it's only natural that they see each other in the nude and it's also pretty well a foregone conclusion that they'll see each other aroused. From that point on there's an amazing development of sexual tension between the two, a tension that manifests itself in some of the most erotic and arousing sexual encounters I've ever read. No, the book isn't all about sex but it sure has lots of it and it's hot, hot, hot.

I loved the characters, loved the story, loved the setting, and loved the book. There, that's about as good as it gets. I hope that author Josh Jango continues the story of Josh and Ziggy, two fascinating men who deserve at least another couple of novels devoted to their lives. Until then, this is an easy 5 star novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Departure From Most Gay Literature! Sep 12 2011
Format:Paperback
I normally avoid literature of this genre. It seems that all such works are simply a series of sexual encounters with a bare minimum of story and character development.
I purchased and read "Try Anything Twice" on the advice of a friend who had read it. I was extremely pleasantly surprised! Yes. There are lots of sexual encounters. And they are HOT! But there is also an enormous amount of story and character development that made me really care for and care about the two main characters - Josh and Zig. I had a difficult time putting the book down. Josh and Zig are the type of guys I would like to have for friends. And I would like to know more about them and what happens to them next.
Perhaps Josh Jango will write a sequel. How about "Try Anything Thrice".

5.0 out of 5 stars Straight boy/gay boy July 12 2012
By Go - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
If you enjoy reading books about the dynamic between friends, one who is gay and one who is straight, then definitely check out this book. It is top notch. I just finished reading it and Luke Hartwell's Atom Heart John Beloved back to back and was hugely impressed by both. They both have great stories and very hot, intimate encounters. Michael Cunningham's A Home at the End of the World: A Novel, Keith Hale's Clicking Beat on the Brink of Nada, Patrick Ryan's Saints of Augustine, and Ben Monopoli's The Cranberry Hush: A Novel also have this dynamic going on but are not as erotic (I recommend reading all of them). Ziggy is quite a character. I liked him a lot and that made the sexual scenes even hotter. As the other reviewers have said, there is plenty of story here too, and also in the Hartwell book. I hope Josh Jango gives us more of his adventures in future books.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW twice over April 18 2012

Have just finished reading Try Anything Twice, at last, a gay man writing about a subject he knows inside out and has shaped it into a fine and well written book. I read it in two sittings, unusual for me in my old age.I felt like I was both of the characters at the same time back in the days when I was discovering myself.I will buy this book again as a gift for friends and highly recommend it to all.
