Book Description

Jan 29 2008
In her sparkling and hilarious debut, author Gwyn Cready introduces Persephone "Seph" Pyle, a total control freak who plans for everything -- until a pair of killer heels sends her back in time and into the arms of a ruggedly handsome sea captain straight from the pages of a romance novel.

Wandering the Pittsburgh airport before a business trip, Seph decides to kill time with some preflight shopping -- anything to get her mind off Tom Fraser, her irresistible, dimple-chinned coworker turned travel buddy. So when a pair of to-die-for pink stilettos calls her name from a store window, she tries them on -- only to be swiftly transported back to the eighteenth century and flung aboard a turbulent ship sailing the Mediterranean!

There, Seph is stunned to meet Phillip Drummond, an arrogant British pirate and the spitting image of Tom. Phillip has summoned her back in time to straighten out his complete mess of a life -- for he is the burly hero in the romance novel she someday hopes to write, and she is responsible for his destiny. But in the midst of turning things right so she can get back to reality, Seph starts to fall for the smolderingly sexy Phillip. And when Tom is thrown into the mix, she doesn't know what -- or who -- she wants. Seph soon realizes that spotting the perfect pair of shoes may be easy, but finding the perfect man can be a real trip.

Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Uptight business executive Persephone Pyle tries on a pair of shoes in the Pittsburgh airport and finds herself magically whisked to a ship at sea in 1706, captained by a privateer who bears a startling resemblance to her office crush, Tom Fraser. She becomes even more bewildered when she discovers that the captain, Philip Drummond, is a character from a romance novel she's been thinking about writing. In exchange for her safe passage to Venice, Drummond orders her to help him find some crucial documents that will determine the fate of the English navy. While she's falling for the roguish Philip, she finds it necessary to travel back to the 21st century and recruit Tom's help; among the time traveling, swashbuckling and office politics, Persephone is no longer sure what she wants—or whom. Cready combines her disparate elements with fast-paced dialogue and a charming plot, hanging it all on a smart, sassy lead who's equally believable as a businesswoman and a writer. Tackling both time travel and the concept of authorial intent in fresh ways, this romance debut is a joy and its author worth watching. (Feb.)

1.0 out of 5 stars A Total Writing Disaster! Mar 26 2008
Format:Mass Market Paperback
DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT waste your money or your time on this book! I couldn't even get past five pages without constantly being stumped by the wording and the awkwardness of the writing. There is absolutely no flow to the storyline as it is constantly being interjected with these "trying to be clever" lines or wordiness. The sentence structures are convoluted and awkward to say the least. The descriptions of anything are way overdone. In one sentence the author puts forth about three overly wordy descriptions with grand words trying to emulate great writing. But the truth is it's like a woman who is over made up and over dressed and trying to look classy when in actuality it assaults the eyes. The author is trying so hard to be an author and trying to look so clever with all her words and sentences (and did I mention all the hyphens and dashes everywhere?) that it assaults the senses. You can't get into the story because it continually is being interrupted with all the wordiness and unnecessary grandiose descriptions. I felt like I was constantly stumbling or I should say more appropriately "tumbling" through the writing. It's like every other sentence you feel like you are jerked or bumped. It was just hard to get your tongue around everything. Good writing just sweeps you along smoothly and you can actually see everything in your mind unfolding and you flow along with it. In this book it never happens. You are constantly aware of the bad sentence structure, the bad wording, the over inflated descriptions and the awkward bumping into words and sentences. And much of it doesn't even make sense. So there you go, you can't really read the story because it's so frustrating and aggravating with all its unnecessary interruptions. I can't imagine how the publishers of this book even published it. In all my 40 years of reading romances and time travel books, this is the worst I've ever encountered. This is the first book that I can't get past five pages! A note to the author: this is not good writing. Please go back to writing courses or find another profession. I paid $9.00 for absolutely nothing; well actually I paid to be totally disappointed. If you are thinking of buying this book, just don't. At least first read the sample that is provided and you will see exactly what I mean. I wish I had of read the sample. This book should never have been published. I gave it one star but in reality it is worth ZERO stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Double the Romance and Humor for Seph Jan 31 2008
By Valentine - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I loved this book. It delivers twice as much entertainment as most romance novels! Think one current and uniquely engaging heroine ("Seph") with two really sexy men, two great locations in two different centuries, a mystery to solve and great shoes, it easily delivers twice as many moments that leave you both sighing or laughing out loud, and a surprise ending that really delivers! It was a page-turner I couldn't put down, cliche as that sounds. Seriously, after I read the book I had to go to Ms. Cready's website ([...]) just to see what's next! Now I can't wait for her next novel "Seducing Mr. Darcy".

1.0 out of 5 stars Huh? July 29 2008
By Princess Caffeine - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I'm a big fan of the time traveling books. I love Diana Gabaldon's books as well as the Highlander books from Moning so I'm always on the lookout for a new one. I had high hopes for this book because it sounded like it had some humor, some romance, pirates and time travel and how can that go wrong?
The plot is confusing at times and the idea of a writer that falls into her own unwritten story and therefore can't control it is just a bad idea. She supposedly created the characters but yet she hasn't, the main character is a guy from work that she's attracted to and the bad guy is her boss that she hates and the plot revolves around some documents that no one can find because the woman that "wrote" the story doesn't know anything about them. That isn't much of a story, even an unwritten one.
I feel like this book was published in the idea stage instead of waiting until it was completely formed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tumbling Through Time Mar 25 2008
By Julie R. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I thought this was silly at first but then I began to get into it more and ended up thoroughly enjoying it. There were some real laugh-out-loud moments, and I could share the heroine's confusion. I found the very end confusing, however, and disappointing.
