After last year's more refined Electric Version, there was question as to whether Canada's finest power-pop supergroup could recapture the vitality and conviction of their acclaimed debut, Mass Romantic. On their latest outing, Twin Cinema, the band-- still boasting the full lineup of Neko Case, A.C. Newman, Destroyer's Dan Bejar, and others-- answers the question: They don't have to. Here at their most highly evolved, the band moves beyond basic sledgehammer pop hooks to present more developed ideas than on Mass Romantic and a more cohesive sound than on Electric Version to result in their most consistent, confident, and, yes, best album to date.

Very Good,

A very good disc filled with interesting song-writing and excellent performances. However, like many discs that are hyped by the hipster, independent media and other influential individuals (e.g., Arcade Fire, Death Cab for Cutie), this disc does not quite live up to its "disc of the year" hype... That said, very well done indeed!
Cheers.

Outstanding,

If you are into Canadian indie or alternative bands like Arcade Fire, Metric, Stars, Broken Social Scene, or Wolf Parade, you will love The New Pornographers. The male and female vocalists sing beautifully together, and they complement each other perfectly. Standout tracks include The Bleeding Heart Show, Sing Me Spanish Techno, and Stacked Crooked (but really all the songs are great). A must-buy. Definitely recommended.
