Johnson, a feline behavior consultant, details the causes of and suggests solutions for such common cat problems as aggression, abnormal eating habits, and litter box difficulties. Her approach is to use techniques that work in harmony with cats' natural proclivities and instincts. One section details the use of Bach flower remedies in treating feline emotional problems, although readers interested in other alternative treatments such as herbs and homeopathy may wish to consult Anitra Frazier's The New Natural Cat (LJ 11/15/90). The book is repetitive in parts (the author recommends "play therapy" as treatment for a wide variety of emotional maladies, and the use of an air ionizer is suggested many times), but it does discuss many common behavior problems with more depth than most cat care books, including Johnson's previous cat book, Cat Love (LJ 5/1/90). Not essential, but libraries with large animal care collections may wish to consider.

If you own a cat please buy this book. Understanding our cats in how they feel, think and act is so important if we want a safe and happy home for our beloved fur ball friends. We have a multi cat home and this is one of the best books I have ever read. Unless you understand how a cat thinks and feels one will never be able to correct any problems that need addressing. Easy informative reading. This problem solving book for cats works, your missing out on valuable information if you don't get this book. Your cats will thank you for it.

I've had this paperback for more than 4 years and its the my first source for dealing with feline problems - and with 11 cats disagreements do crop up from time to time.While all the chapters make for fascinating reading, the chapter on the use of BACH FLOWER REMEDIES was outstanding. I had never heard of the Bach Flower Remedies but started using them after reading Pam Johnson's comments -- and with wonderful results. A gem of a book - packed with kitty lore and sound advice on how to handle behavioral problems in a sympathic, understanding manner -- not to mention cats who are shy, agressive - introducing new pets -- you name it. Pam Johnson, you ROCK!

I am a humane educator at an animal shelter. I have read many a book about animal behavior in my line of work. This is by far THE BEST book I have ever read on cat behavior and I often recommend it to adopters and potential adoptors. It is now circulating around the shelter workers to keep them informed on how to counsil cat caregivers.
