Book Description

Oct. 6 2009
More than 120 irresistible recipes reflecting the different lifestyles and tastes of a mother and daughter who love to cook.

While growing up, Devin Connell absorbed much about the pleasures of food and cooking in the kitchen of her mother, Linda Haynes. She too became an exceptional cook, with her own style. Two Dishes gives mother and daughter’s distinctive takes on a similar theme: one using timeless techniques, the other embracing an improvisational, budget-conscious approach. Linda makes Moroccan Spiced Cornish Hens with Roasted Oranges, Onions, and Figs; Devin offers Sesame Chicken with Mango, Green Onion, and Ginger Salsa. The recipes range from tempting comfort food and last-minute snacks to elegant brunch and dinner-party dishes, all complemented by gorgeous full-colour photography throughout.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gourmet quality, 'kitchen cook friendly' dishes suitable for any and all dining occasions! March 15 2010
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
Just as in any other aspect of our modern culture where there are generational differences in music, fashion, and technological adaptation, so there are such differences in the culinary arts as well. No other cookbook provides this kind of unique insight as does "Two Dishes: Mother and Daughter: Two Cooks, Two Lifestyles, Two Takes", the collaborative, 224-page, beautifully illustrated compendium of recipes and commentary. Of special note are the occasional 'Kitchen Hints'. With dishes ranging from Crispy Potato Crostini with Taleggio, Apple and Prosciutto; Watercress with Red Grapes and Pecorino Shards; Comforting Egg Drop Parmesan Soup; and Sesame Chicken with Mango, Green Onion, and Ginger Salsa; to Slow-Cooked Cabbage with Sweet Apple; Hazelnut Meringue Millefeuilles with Whipped Cream and Summer Berries; and Mile-High Zebra Cake with Fluffy Vanilla Cream Cheese Frosting, "Two Dishes: Mother and Daughter: Two Cooks, Two Lifestyles, Two Takes" is an outstanding culinary reference for palate pleasing, gourmet quality, 'kitchen cook friendly' dishes suitable for any and all dining occasions!
4.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring Jan. 6 2010
By A. Handleson - Published on Amazon.com
As a beginner I find this book inspiring, however I am often having to look up the basic terminology and some ingredients. I really like the idea of difficult/easy pairing. Also the book offers suggestion for vegetarian substitutions for some meat recipes which is nice. I have about 15 recipes tabbed right now that I want to try from this book. The ones I have created have varied in their taste but I really think any that didn't turn out are due to my skill level and electric stove!

Great recipe book! Fun, interesting mixes of tastes. Although some of the recipes require a lot of ingredients, most ingredient lists are short and easy to come by. Definitely glad I bought this for my mom for Mother's Day!
