U2360° At The Rose Bowl was the penultimate gig of last year's U2360° tour in support of their Grammy-nominated album No Line on The Horizon. The Rose Bowl performance was the band's biggest show of 2009 and U2's biggest ever US show, with a live audience in excess of 97,000. The show was also streamed across seven continents via YouTube. The first ever live streaming of a full-length stadium concert, U2360° at the Rose Bowl had over 10 million views on the channel in one week.
Shot entirely in HD, the concert was filmed with 27 cameras and directed by Tom Krueger who had previously worked on U23D, the first live action 3D concert movie taken from U2's Vertigo Tour. Available in standard and two disc deluxe DVD formats, U2360° At The Rose Bowl will also be U2's first concert available in Blu-ray. The deluxe formats and the Blu-ray will feature a new documentary called Squaring the Circle: Creating U2360°, with new interviews from U2, Paul McGuinness and the team behind the touring production.

How the mighty have fallen!,

This review is from: U2: 360 - Live at the Rose Bowl [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
I have liked U2 since high school and stayed a fan up until the last few years. This was the first tour they have had since before the mid 80's that I did not see. Mostly because I don't think the last two U2 records have been up to snuff. Up until now you might of not liked everything U2 put out but you could respect them for trying something new. But since the flop known as Pop U2 has just repeated itself. After seeing this Blu ray I am glad I didn't shell out the hundreds of dollars it now cost to see them live (these guys all came from working class backgrounds now you have to be a lawyer just to be able to afford and see their show). The set list is horrible, Bono's voice is done and everyone else looks like they are on auto pilot. Now before all you die hard U2 fans tair me a new one watch the Live In Sydney concert then this one and you tell me if I am wrong! I am not saying this band is done but they need a break. Creatively they have been running on empty for a while. Like I said, take a break. You know the saying "How can I miss you if you don't go away".

A Great Concert Hurt by Editing,

This review is from: U2: 360 - Live at the Rose Bowl [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
I saw U2 on the 360 tour both nights in Toronto and watched this show stream live on Youtube. This has been a great tour and it is unfortunately not well represented by this DVD/Blu Ray. The I held a viewing party with people who have been to U2 shows and watched previous concert videos and we all agreed that the fast cutting at points really took us out of the show and made us feel like we were watching a music video, not a live performance. We all wished we could have got a Blu Ray quality version of the original YouTube stream instead.

Hard on the eyes,

This review is from: U2: 360 - Live at the Rose Bowl [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
The frenetic video editing and jiggly camera work are enough to give you a headache. Maybe this style works on a three-minute song video, but try sitting through two hours of this stuff. Not easy to watch! (We did it, but spread it out over three evenings to preserve our sanity.)Another problem is the sheer magnitude of the production and the 360 setup of the stage. U2 is known for their emotional connection with their fans, but this seems to be lacking here. This is an over-the-top production, with Bono and Edge running around the enormous stage and cat-walks, but the fans seem distant. Things improve, somewhat, about half-way through the show when there are more slow songs and older favourites. At least you don't need to close your eyes to take a break from all the mayhem and crazy video editing. U2 "Go Home" from their 2001 show as Slane Castle in Ireland is much better in almost every respect, including (inexplicably) the sound quality. And the U2 IMAX-3D concert is an experience every U2 fan should have. But U2 360 is too much circus, too much of everything -- except emotion. U2 did it because they're the only band around these days that can afford to; maybe next time they'll go back to the basics -- because they can.
