Book Description
Richard M. Dolan is a gifted historian whose study of U.S. Cold War strategy led him to the broader context of increased security measures and secrecy since World War II. One aspect of such government policies that has continued to hold the public's imagination for over half a century is the question of unidentified flying objects.
UFOs and the National Security State is the first volume of a two-part detailed chronological narrative of the national security dimensions of the UFO phenomenon from 1941 to the present. Working from hundreds of declassified records and other primary and secondary sources, Dolan centers his investigation on the American military and intelligence communities, demonstrating that they take UFOs seriously indeed.
Included in this volume are the activities of more than fifty military bases relating to UFOs, innumerable violations of sensitive airspace by unknown craft and analyses of the Roswell controversy, the CIA-sponsored Robertson Panel, and the Condon Committee Report. Dolan highlights the development of civilian anti-secrecy movements, which flourished in the 1950s and 1960s until the adoption of an official government policy and subsequent "closing of the door" during the Nixon administration.

Finally a serious look at the UFO phenomena,

A big thank you to Richard Dolan for using his skills as a historian to meticulously go though all the officials records, mainly released through the Freedom of Information act, to make a timeline of UFO sightings, and government investigations/coverup into the phenomena. It is obvious from the records, as shown in the book, that something was going on that was very disconcerting to the power elite and that they did everything in their power to keep it top secret. Apart from making a timeline of UFO related events, Dolan shows how the power elite with the use of Counterintelligence programs known as COINTELPRO, were debunking,denying and ridiculing the UFO phenomenon, so that no serious scientist with concern for their career would dare talk about or investigate the subject.The book goes only to the year 1973, but a new book following on should apparently be coming out soon, which should be interesting to get hold of. A few days ago, I stumbled on this recent podcast with Dolan on the alternative news site "Signs of the Times", while surfing the net. Worth a listen as he talks about his findings and his upcoming sequel to the first book, bringing the chronology up to the present.

For those who purport that the UFO phenomenon is byproduct of over-active imaginations or quasi-religious fantasies, here is a book that offers enough soft evidence to show that the military and governmental authorities have, been, and are, involved in a coverup of massive proportions. Yes, there have been other "history" books written on the UFO problem, yet, Richard Dolan squarely hits the nail on the head, with this comprehensive, clearly articulated volume on the prehistory of UFOs in our skies. His refreshing ability to refrain from subjective arguments for or against propels him to the top of the list for unbiased argument. He simply reports.. And the reports are in, by the hundreds, nationally and globally. Classified documents, military and government voices and clearcut unambiguous sightings both on radar and physical traces, add to the overwhelming conclusion that something of great magnitude has been happening in the earth's skies for at least over half a century, probably more. If you enjoy an open mind, free from dogmatic restraints, then open this book, and read it with fresh eye. Then decide for yourself if "hallucinations" can cover all the bases. A superb and scholarly work!

Richard Dolan's, "UFOs and the National Security State: Chronology of a Coverup, 1941-1973" certainly gives us a glimpse of the effort that the "powers that be" undertake to keep the truth form the general public. Through Dolan's extensive research their tactics become evident. One can only imagine what has taken place over the last thirty years. Are we seeing the results manifest in today's world? Looking forward to Volume II.
