"Weird Al" Yankovic, Kevin McCarthy (Innerspace), Michael Richards ("Seinfeld"), David Bowie (The Cable Guy), Victoria Jackson ("Saturday Night Live") and Fran Drescher ("The Nanny") star in this inspired comedy about an offbeat guy who turns a deadbeat TV station into a raging success! Broadcasting Weird Al's uniquely strange brand of humor, UHF's Channel 62 is a place you'll want to visit...with increasing frequency! George Newman (Weird Al) is a daydreamer whose hyperactive imagination keeps him from holding a steady job...until his uncle hires him as manager of Channel 62, a TV station that's losing money and viewers fast. But when George replaces the station's reruns with bizarre programs like "Wheel of Fish," "The Wonderful World Of Phlegm" and "Raul's Wild Kingdom" (where poodles fly from third-story windows), ratings begin to soar! But as the ratings rise, so does the wrath of TV mogul R.J. Fletcher (McCarthy), who wants to turn the station into a parking lot. Can George find the money he needs to stay on the air? Stay tuned!

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE ABSOLUTE FUNNIEST COMEDIES OF ALL TIME!, Nov 3 2002

This review is from: UHF (Widescreen) (DVD)
This is definitely on my top five comedies list. It's so ...funny the whole way through! Just lampoon after lampoon, idiocy after idiocy, and pun after pun. If you liked "Dumb and Dumber", "Monty Python & the Holy Grail", and all those Naked Gun and Airplane vehicles, then you'll LOVE this! The picture and sound quality are both perfect! And the special features are very pleasing (even the menus are funny!).

Ten Stars! More! Buy It! Now! Or miss your chance at winning who knows what on....WHEEL...OF...FISH!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Funniest Movies Ever!, Feb 1 2002
By
Ryan (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: UHF (Widescreen) (DVD)
First off, if you're looking for a comedy with a thick and rich plot, you won't find it here. However, if you just want to have a good time and "be goofy," then you'll love this movie. This movie is chock full of parodies, spoofs, and hilarious characters that could easily compare with "Saturday Night Live" or the "Simpsons". If you're a fan of Weird Al's music, you'll enjoy it even more. You needn't listen to the comments of the critics who mostly attacked this movie back in the '80s. They practically get payed to dislike movies, and in my experience, most comedies well received by critics are, overall, not nearly as funny as the really bizarre, satirical movies of this sort. Anyways, UHF is a really good movie, and if you were planning on spending [alot of money] for a used tape of it, now you have a chance to get for a much more reasonable price. Plus, according to Weird Al's Website, it will be a Collector's Edition with lots of extras. The DVD is DEFINITELY coming out this summer. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars 1 problem with the dvd., Dec 22 2003
This review is from: UHF (Widescreen) (DVD)
I love this movie but there is one problem. It is double sided. I hate double sided dvds (but, I can understand why "Gone with the wind" had 2 sides; it's too long to fit on on side.) It is stupid to double side a dvd for widescreen and full-screen formats. They should be made separately so when the company sells the dvd to stores, the stores will probably buy both to give their customers their choice. They'd probably make more money that way. Anyways, this movie is great. Weird Al rules. Buy this ASAP.
