this is a pretty good animated movie.it might be a bit too intense for
younger kids, but it should be OK for older preteens.some of the fights
are amazing, but there's also some drama, which is handled well.i like
the choice of villain for the movie.i thought it represented a very
dangerous threat, and the filmmakers presented it in a credible way.i
also liked the great mix of characters with different skills and
abilities.plus, the movie highlights the value of friendship and team
work,so there is a bit of a lesson there.it's not preachy though.the
movie is short,(less than 75 minutes)but there's a lot packed into
those minutes and the movie doesn't suffer from the short running
time.for me there were only two real drawbacks to the movie.one is that
one or two of the voices don't seem to fit their characters very
well.most of them do though.in fact, some of them are brilliant.the
other minor complaint i have is that the movie does start off very
slow, and takes a bit of time to get going.but once it gets going,it
doesn't stop until the end.over all though ,this was a fun and
entertaining movie. 3.5/5

Thoroughly enjoyed these movies. I wasn't expecting a lot from an animated movie but these delivered. The story was interesting and held my attention. There were a lot of action sequences and they were all done well and didn't overshadow the story. The voice acting was very good and didn't seem forced or sound over the top. The writing wasn't cheesy (except for Thor) and it really brought out the characters. The animation was just like a comic book which looked great on screen. I didn't watch these back to back but I should have since the stories blend well together.

My benchmarks for any animated movie are simple...
Was I entertained?
Would I watch it again?
Will I sit down with my kids when they are old enough and watch this with them?

I have to answer YES to all three!

In World War II, the Nazis tried to launch an intercontinental missile and was thwarted by Captain America, but at great cost: Captain America fell into icy waters and was presumed dead. Some sixty years later, he was found and revived by S.H.I.E.L.D., who ends up convincing him to join their fight against the alien Chitauri. When the Chitauri attack, S.H.I.E.L.D. implements Project Avenger and begins assembling together Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to take on the Chitauri and put a stop to them once and for all.

This ensemble flick is one of the greats and is a solid introduction for the uninitiated to the Avengers—Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, Giant Man, Wasp and Hulk—all led by Nick Fury.

It’s evenly paced, exciting, and gives each member of the team enough screen time to give them a chance to lock in with the viewer and make that viewer-character connection before moving on to the next guy.

Marvel’s direct-to-video efforts have been lacking and haven’t been that great because they’ve been very busy—albeit very successfully—focusing their efforts on bringing their heroes to the big screen. Ultimate Avengers and its sequel are the major exceptions to their animated shortcomings and this movie is every bit as good as their live action counterparts. I also think that’s the secret to making a good animated movie: treat it with the same care and seriousness as a live action film and you’ll hit it out of the ballpark every time. It works in Japanese animation. No reason why it wouldn’t work here in the West.

This movie was good start to finish. Had a story that spanned decades, and made you care about what was going on from first frame to last.

Both movies are on YouTube in their entirety, so check them out to see if you like them enough to want to own them. The D.C. cartoon movies are generally better than the Marvel ones. These movies are decent but not great... I think the second film is better overall.

$10 for both movies, plus bonus features, on BluRay is a great deal... and that's why I gave it 5 stars. Beware that there are also single DVD's of each film, and DVD's with both films, and DVD's with both films plus a 3rd (and weaker) film. This one is cheaper AND the picture quality looks better on BluRay.
