Book Description

A comprehesive introduction to the history, the heros and the skills needed to ride safely and swiftly regardless of snow or weather conditions.

From the Publisher

In the 16 months since Marco Siffredi of France became the first person to snowboard down Mt. Everest in May 2001, the sport that was once the domain of thrill-seekers and slope "outlaws" has turned into one of America’s favorite pastimes. For those who had any lingering doubts last winter, the U.S. sweeps of the men’s halfpipe and 18-year old Kelly Clark’s spectacular win in the women’s halfpipe in the 2002 Olympics was more than enough to convince them of the limitless excitement snowboarding offers.

This action-packed collection of essays and interviews about the sport which has lured in 1/3 of ski-area visitors climaxes in an expose of Alaska, the mysterious land of snowboarding extremes where "the scale is immense, the exposure is terrifying, and the weather can be more brutal than you thought possible." Still there are adventurers who come by the thousands to conquer the fierce and beautiful slopes, and Ultimate Snowboarding shows us why.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for Extreme Bookshelves, Dec 9 2002
By
This review is from: Ultimate Encyclopedia of Snowboarding (Paperback)
Billy Miller has compiled a collection of stories written by some of the best writers in the world of snowboarding. He's taken them and organized them in such a way that any newbie (beginner) or seasoned snowboarding pro will walk away having learned something about the sport they love or hope to learn to love. Learn the history of the sport, and then continue onward into the personal lives of some of the sports icons. Learn basic and advanced tricks all to the tune of rocking full color photography, albeit some of it slightly outdated. Consider it a history lesson in extreme with an inside look at a snowy white snowboarding world that is now as common as MTV, but was once a renegade outlaw sport. Take it to the limit. Billy Miller and his team of contributors did. You won't be disappointed in this book, I thought I knew everything there was to know about snowboarding. Mr. Miller proved me wrong.
