2011 two CD compilation from the Rock singer, songwriter and icon. For the first time, all of Bob Seger's top hits have been gathered for a career-spanning double disc set. The 26-track collection includes "Night Moves," "Turn The Page," "Hollywood Nights," "Mainstreet," "Old Time Rock And Roll," "Like A Rock," "Her Strut," "We've Got Tonight," "Against The Wind," "Still The Same," and many other classics, as well as the Detroit rocker's two #1 radio singles from this year, "Downtown Train" and his current #1 Classic Rock hit, "Hey Hey Hey Hey (Going Back To Birmingham)." All songs on the album have been meticulously remastered from the original master tapes, including the original mono version of Seger's first hit "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" and Seger's timeless rendition of the holiday classic "Little Drummer Boy."

This is a good set and I'm glad to finally get Ramblin' Gamblin' Man. For someone who has not already bought Greatest Hits 1 and then 2, this is the collection to get. Not only are almost all of the big hits from both those collections included here, but the sound quality is louder and better.
Note About the Sound Quality:
Someone posted a complaint about the sound of certain songs, which worried me... I checked it out, compared it to previous Greatest Hits CD's and also to the individual album CD's. I think that person was complaining about the previous Greatest Hits CD's and NOT this one. Greatest Hits 1 is very quiet and not a clean/clear as this one, so maybe the dropouts are on THAT CD. There are no dropouts on this CD on the songs stated by the other reviewer and the sound is louder and clearer, with maybe too much highs sometimes. Overall I think the individual album CD's sounded best because they had the volume without being too loud but were warmer and better balanced and probably less compressed. However, I don't think most people would notice the difference unless they played it on a decent stereo system anyways.
The guy had a LOT of hits. Like many others, I also feel Segar deserves a 3-4 CD box set in order to do him and his fans proper justice. This was a lost opportunity to give fans all the hits missing from Greatest Hits 1 and Greatest Hits 2... this should have been Greatest Hits 3. Instead THIS collection has almost all of Greatest Hits 1 (11 of the 14 songs) and half of Greatest Hits 2 (8 of 16 songs, the last track is a bonus video), making the other purchases redundant.Read more ›
Interesting story about "Downtown Train". Bob Seger was freinds with Rod Stewart and one day in the studio Rod asked him if he knew any great songs he could cover on his new record. Seger told him that Tom Waits has tons of really good songs and played him his version of "Downtown Train" (the Bob Seger version). Rod said he liked it and left. A couple of moths later Rod Stewart released his version of downtown train that he recorded and released after hearing Bob Segers but before Seger had finished his record and could release his own. Nice eh!

I have always been a big fan, love this collection, not all his hits but every song included certainly is a hit!Published 6 months ago by Trish
