Book Description

January 2012
Away with ghosts and goblins! Promote Jesus as the light of the world with The Un-Halloween Book. Included is everything churches need to organize and direct an inspirational fall festival for children that teaches them about God, the Bible and the Christian life. As kids move from activity to activity, they will have fun as they grow in their knowledge of the Lord and learn how they can grow closer to Him. For smaller parties, this reproducible book includes non-seasonal Bible story themes that can easily be combined and used for shorter time frames. The activities can also be used to complement Sunday school curriculum, children's church, Bible clubs or home school programs.

5.0 out of 5 stars The planning book for a "details" person Feb. 7 2000
This was a great source for planning. There are ideas about bulletin boards, time schedules, detailed planning steps, advertisement and much more. The samples and costume ideas were great. This book also has ideas (detailed! ) that can be used for smaller activies that are learning experiences.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MARVELOUS RESOURCE FOR CHURCHES AND FAMILIES Sept. 27 2013

The authors explain in the introductory note to this 2000 book, "For some people, Halloween is a time for harmless fun, while others see it as a pagan holiday. Some see Halloween as an innocent time of dressing up and pretending to be someone different. Others would like to abolish Halloween because of its association with witchcraft and demons. Can a church sponsor any event at Halloween? We believe that planning a party at the end of October is not honoring the evil in the world. Rather, it is a celebration of the fact that Christians have nothing to fear. Christians cannot ignore the existence of evil but we know that 'the one who is in you is greater than than the one who is in the world' (1 John 4:4). This party can be a fun alternative to the traditional Halloween activities. Instead of trick-or-treating, young and old alike can gather in a safe environment for autumn fun, free of any pagan overtones." (Pg. 7)

The book includes ideas for "Getting Started" (e.g., publicity), as well as "Party Plans," eighteen games with biblical themes (e.g., Belly of a Whale; David and Goliath; Fishing in the Sea of Galilee, etc.); Crafts; Puzzles; Snacks; Costumes, as well as a section of "Patterns and Reproducibles" (suitable for easy photocopying).

This book would be an EXCELLENT resource for a church, or even individual families, who want to have a biblically-honoring "fall celebration" without making it a "Halloween" activity, per se.
