Product Description

Today, as in yesteryear, fairy tales continue to inhabit our imaginations. Composers adapted the magical world of the fairy tale for their own purposes, taking inspiration from sonnets and story fragments, and human sensation. Closer to home, composers of movie music make particular use of the fairy-tale world, with its structural features such as quests ,multiple setbacks and triumph over oneself. Composers such as Hisaishi, Dompierre, Rota and Morricone, have composed many unforgettable soundtracks that help extend the cinematic world beyond the mere image. Gently and serenely, Angèle Dubeau and La Pietà lead us into reverie—a land of magic wands, of dreams and of sometimes naughty children.

This is a great cd to just sit back and relax to. Lovely covers of Pop (Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair) and Jazz (What a Wonderful World) classics as well as perfect renditions of popular Classical (Spiegel im Spiegel) pieces and Movie (The Mission and The Godfather) soundtrack cuts.
Angele and La Pieta have selected some great compositions to combine, it's like a mix cd you would make for yourself.

Beautiful Jan. 18 2010

We heard this group play locally and loved it. I bought this CD from Amazon.com for my sister to help her relax while she is going through a hard time. We played it, and it was so beautiful! I'm waiting for her to produce a cd with some of the Roma and Argentine (Piazolla) music she played at the concert.

Fairy Tale and YoYo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone Sept. 9 2012

A few years ago, I heard a piece of music that I thought was so beautiful but I did not know the name of the piece.
One day, I heard it on NPR - When I learned the title, I immediately went to Amazon. The name of the piece is LADY
CALIPH by Ennio Morricone. I found 2 renditions of this piece - one rendition on "Fairy Tale" and another on "Yoyo MA." I tend to favor the rendition on the CD "Fairy Tale." However, in my opinion both renditions are very masterly and beautifully played. I like to listen to YoYo Ma. I have several CDs featuring him and the cello. I had not heard of Angele Dubeau. Her CD is simply beautiful - she certainly knows how to make the violin come alive. Often when I come home from work, I just sit and listen to one or the other of these CDs. I find the music soothing and calming after a long day. For individuals that have a leaning toward classical music, I recommend these two.

Good sound and good performance from this Canadian all-female group. I saw them in concert and this is representative of their work. Very satisfying.

This is the music youwill return to again and again: it keeps your soul full. Sept. 2 2010

This absolutely exquisite CD deserves to have hundreds of five star reviews, not just the two that are here. This is extraordinary music making - both technically precise and taut and deeply emotional. Angele Dubeau, playing the Rosiers Stradivarius and leading a group of all women musicians, creates music which will take you deep into yourself and replenish your heart and soul.

Just beautiful! Lovely, light music, very relaxing. I love it--a good way to end a stressful day or play in my car for a relaxing drive.
