Product Description

From Amazon

Amazon Best Books of the Month, November 2010: From Laura Hillenbrand, the bestselling author of Seabiscuit, comes Unbroken, the inspiring true story of a man who lived through a series of catastrophes almost too incredible to be believed. In evocative, immediate descriptions, Hillenbrand unfurls the story of Louie Zamperini--a juvenile delinquent-turned-Olympic runner-turned-Army hero. During a routine search mission over the Pacific, Louie’s plane crashed into the ocean, and what happened to him over the next three years of his life is a story that will keep you glued to the pages, eagerly awaiting the next turn in the story and fearing it at the same time. You’ll cheer for the man who somehow maintained his selfhood and humanity despite the monumental degradations he suffered, and you’ll want to share this book with everyone you know. --Juliet Disparte

Review

'The pages almost turn themselves. His tale is remarkable and his resilience inspiring.' Ben Macintyre 'An instant classic.' Mail on Sunday 'Hillenbrand must be congratulated for chiselling out such an uplifting story! This is tremendous stuff.' Daily Telegraph 'A riveting read.' Spectator 'Hillenbrand's storytelling is gripping.' Financial Times '"Unbroken" is an extraordinarily compelling read, a match for any thriller!a remarkable book.' Sunday Times 'Most readable!a wonderful tale' Daily Mail 'This season's literary sensation' Financial Times A classic tale.' Sunday Times' 'Great horse, great name, great story, very good book!this one could run and run' Observer --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Laura Hillenbrand will absolutely WOW the reader. This is a real page turner of a well researched true story. It reads like the finest of novels and it really makes you stop and think...this really happened. This is the first book by Laura that I have read and I will now look up Secretariat. Keep writing Laura, you are one fine writer. Other than the publisher's notes I will not give the story away other than to say read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Book, July 28 2011
This review is from: Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption (Hardcover)
Absolutely incredible book. Laura Hillenbrand is an amazing writer. She makes you feel as if you were right there experiencing everything the main character, Louie, went through. The book should be mandatory reading for all school age kids from grade 6 and up and all adults too. We often whine about stuff which is insignificant when you read this book. What Louie and all the men and women who went through WWII went through was insane. It's so incredible how Louie never gave up despite what at times seemed like insurmountable challenges. This is definitely a book that makes you gain an appreciation for what we have and for all men and women who fought in WWII. The only thing I would have liked is if Laura spent some more time discussing Louie's life after the war and after he found God. Other than that, this book is a treasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly outstanding book, May 24 2011
This review is from: Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption (Hardcover)
A truly outstanding book, beautifully written and that leaves you unable to put the book down. Louis Zamperini's courage and determination not to give in to one of mankind's worst periods of abuse is a tribute not only to him but does justice to the many men mentioned within his account who despite being beaten, tortured and abused did not lose their desire to survive and fight back no matter how small the victory. This should be required reading for young people to appreciate how power and cultural pressures if not curtailed can lead to atrocities and abuses of power. A sad book in many ways but ultimately also one that demonstrates the power of the human spirit to rise above hatred and find new paths to forgiveness. A book I will pass to my friends and children to read.
