5.0 out of 5 stars Classic X-men at Barnes & Noble, April 21 2010
By Michael A. Torregrossa - Published on Amazon.com
This is a paperback reprint of Marvel Masterworks: The Uncanny X-Men, Vol. 2 (available on Amazon.com as Marvel Masterworks: The Uncanny X-Men, Vol. 2 and Marvel Masterworks: The Uncanny X-Men Vol 12 (1991) (Reprinting X-Men #101-110)) distributed by Marvel Comics in hardcover beginning in 1990 and in a number of subsequent reprints. This particular edition was sold exclusively in Barnes & Nobles stores and through their web site. In its various incarnations, Marvel Masterworks: Uncanny X-Men Vol. 2 collects X-Men (1st Series) Nos. 101-110 (Oct. 1976-April 1978), which focus on the exploits of the new X-Men (Banshee, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Storm, and Wolverine) and old X-Men Cyclops and Marvel Girl (now Phoenix) and introduce scores of new characters to the X-Men mythos, like Black Tom, Lilandra, the Shi'ar Imperial Guard, the Starjammers, Emperor D'ken, and Alpha Flight, and important new artifacts, such as the M'Kraan Crystal.

5.0 out of 5 stars it just keeps getting better, Aug 25 2009
By culture lover - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Uncanny X-Men Masterworks Vol. 2 (Hardcover)
After a slightly shaky start, the New X-Men (the international team that replaced most of the original teenagers) has a climatic battle against the Sentinels in Marvel Masterworks: Uncanny X-Men, Vol. 1. This volume starts immediately afterwards, featuring the first appearance of the Phoenix, a titanic grudge match with the Juggernaut, a lop-sided bout with Magneto, Firelord, the return of Eric the Red and the introduction of the Starjammers! There's also a fight with (and first appearance of) Weapon Alpha, who vows to return with the rest of Alpha Flight, a promise kept in Marvel Masterworks: The Uncanny X-Men, Vol. 3 (Reprints Uncanny X-men 111-121).

Creators Chris Claremont, Dave Cockrum and John Byrne are all at the top of their game in this volume. The action is fast and furious, while allowing for personal interaction between this team of fascinating individuals.

These volumes are part of the reason why the X-Men gained their legions of fans.
