4.0 out of 5 stars Setting themselves apart... Jan. 8 2011
Format:Audio CD
I'll be honest right from the start; I'm not a huge Death Metal. Nothing against it, not just my cup of tea (or bottle of Jack just to sound more Metal). But when it comes to God Dethroned I can't help but get excited everytime they release a new album. With their last release, "Passiondale", the band gave up the Satanic theme they've been known for since their beginning. Opting to release a concept album about the war of Paschendale really helped God Dethroned set themselves apart from the other Death Metal bands who still uses the same generic "Love Satan, hate God" theme. And what an album it is!!! Their best by a long shot.

So comes the following of "Passiondale"; "Under the Sign of the Iron Cross". The band made the smart decision to follow in the steps of their previous effort & make a concept album about WWI. I must say that "Under the Sign" is somewhat of a minor step down from "Passiondale", but that's only because "Passinodale" is so epic. Make no mistake about it... This album will destroy you! The speed & agression are there from start to finish with a few melodic parts that makes a God Dethrone album unique.

It's simply impossible to be disapointed with this album; It's God Dethrone at his best. It is a must for all Metal fans & defenitly in the top 10 of best Metal album of 2010.

5.0 out of 5 stars Death metal perfection! Dec 6 2010
By Kevin Wainwright - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Faster and more brutal than "Passiondale", this album is a continuation of the World War I theme. "Storm of Steel" starts things off at an insanely fast pace, and the album barely ever lets up on the fury. It's nice to hear a vocalist that's brutal, yet still intelligible. For fans of hyper fast, brutal yet catchy & memorable death metal. Great production too, crushingly heavy yet clear. Their best effort to date!
5.0 out of 5 stars If the band does a threesome: June 2 2013

Then what needs to be done since these are concept albums is wait until all 3 of them are available and then release them in a 3 gatefold type box set (at a reduced price) even though I would and actually might buy them at full price because I know that there is a lot of work that goes into making these things as I used to do recording engineering so that the fans (such as myself) can enjoy them as a story together.

But I am always looking for a bargain.
5.0 out of 5 stars this CD would make a good history lesson June 18 2011

on their last CD entitled "Passiondale" , God Dethroned did a very good job telling about World War 1. the lesson continues on "Under the Sign of the Iron Cross". is it just me, or does the song "Storm of Steel" bear a passing resemblance to the song "Nihilist" on the album "Lair of the White Worm"? the rest of the album sounds different though. it would definitely be awesome if you could play this in History class for an oral report, and provided your teacher is a metalhead, get an A for it. this album, like "Passiondale" all the way down to "The Grand Grimoire" is a mixture of brutality and melody, but the mixture works perfectly though. it is kind of strange that the band changes members with every album, but it still sounds like God Dethroned.

i give "Under The Sign Of The Iron Cross" 5/5 stars.

for fans of God Dethroned the music is indeed a bit heavier than Passiondale in most aspects. and also is a concept album about world war 1, like Passiondale. i found the lyrics to be good as well as all the other apects.

i'm not one for reviews, as i believe one should listen and judge for themselves.

however, since i have the time... i simply wish to say:

i believe fans of God Dethroned's previous albums will like this one, especially those who liked the previous album "Passiondale". (i myself have every God Dethroned album except for the first "christhunt")

those who are not familiar with God Dethroned's work should definitly visit their myspace page and listen to the samples (or try and find them on whatever site they use to find samples of a band's music)

it's a shame God Dethroned is calling it quits, according to their webpage.

This is the first God Dethroned album i own but it won't be the last. I must of been under a rock to not of heard these guys earlier. The WW1 themed album is near perfect, superb drums, great guitars and good lyrics and vocals. If you like your metal fast, brutal and yet still with some melody, get off your lazy ass and go get this. It doesn't dissapoint.
