Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

The Edgar Award-winning author of Chiefs (basis of a TV miniseries) and the bestselling Deep Lie now offers a highly readable if somewhat overheated thriller-cum-gothic that includes murder, drug smuggling, faith healing, hallucinations, revenants and incest. A one-time ace reporter rents a cabin in a backwoods Georgia town, then stumbles upon and determines to solve the town mystery, which involves a seemingly affable sheriff, an autocratic town father and an incest-ridden family whose once-prosperous farm now lies under a lake. He joins forces with a plucky female reporter bent on proving that the sheriff is "dirty," and there's never a dull moment as the story surges toward its exciting climax. The conclusion is a little too far-fetchedbut by that time readers have had more than their money's worth. Major ad/promo; Literary Guild and Doubleday Book Club alternates.

3.0 out of 5 stars No the best but is good, Oct 21 2003
I am an argentinian men so I couldn't read all woods books. this is the last i have read and i think that it could be better. i am not saying that the book is bad, i like it.
i like this sensation of gothic and terror. i think that this book is not the best ( i prefer grass roots, heat, or dead eyes, santa fe rules or white cargo) but is better than L.A times or new york dead.

5.0 out of 5 stars This was a great book!, July 23 2002
By A Customer
Wow! Wow! Wow! I've read several of Stuart Woods' novels before, all from the Stone Barrington series. I've enjoyed all of those so much, I wasn't sure I'd like something other than a Stone B. story. What an amazing surprise this was. I haven't been so engrossed in a story in ages. At times, I had to force myself to put this book down. The characters were engaging and the intertwined plots were quite simply mesmerizing. Once you start reading, you'll be hooked straight through to the unexpected ending. Stuart Woods is an expert storyteller.
