3.0 out of 5 stars Good story--Needs Work in the Telling, July 27 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Unforgettable night (Mass Market Paperback)
"Unforgettable Night" is one of Kelsey Roberts most original Rose Tattoo books, frequently entertaining, although it could use a little work. In the beginning, I was dreading it: the entire opening is just page upon page of dialogue with little or no narration (a tendency that carried throughout), and while plenty of the lines (as always) were good, it did get old after a while. However, once the story (finally) kicked in, it definitely "intrigued," culminating in an ending that was both satisfying, well played-out, and fully explained(!). Add in the fact that this isn't a male cop/lady lawyer pairing, and it's a nice change of pace. My only hesitation is that, while the characters came to life, sometimes I had trouble picturing their surroundings and such. If only Ms. Roberts had written a little more narration to go with that dialogue... (And the preview of her next book in the back of this one--two full pages of nothing but dialogue--makes me fear this isn't going to change anytime soon.)

I have to agree with the "Romantic Times" 3 star review on this one: there was a lot of good things about it, but the writing could have been tightened up. Still, this is the first Rose Tattoo book in quite some time (since "The Tall, Dark Alibi) that I've felt like keeping. Perfect for a light, good read. Just not a great one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous read, Jun 3 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Unforgettable night (Mass Market Paperback)
Kelsey Roberts does it again with a fabulous story that draws the reader into the situation right from the very first page. Imagine waking up in a cemetary! Wonderfully inventive. This is another of her extremely clever plots with funny, lively dialogue that fans like me have come to love and expect. A must read.

This book grabs you at the start and doesn't let go until the very end. It is beautifully written, has a yummy hero and is one of the best books I've read by this author.
