Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Gallison's trademark oddball characters, tied together in her smooth style, reappear again in a third Mother Lavinia Grey mystery (after Devil's Workshop). Episcopalian vicar Mother Vinnie has her hands full as she deals with the problems of St. Bede's parishioners, Little League baseball, the murders of two prominent citizens, and constant chaos in Fisherville, N.J. A goodly amount of the chaos comes from the natural eccentricities of the townsfolk. As Mother Vinnie describes a few of them getting into a minivan, "It was like watching a group of vegetables climb into a pressure cooker and pull the lid down after themselves." There's tons of fun to be had between the covers of this book. However, in order to enjoy this installment to the fullest, readers are advised to first read previous titles in the series.

Mother Lavinia Grey, heroine of Devil's Workshop, returns to her flock at St. Bede's Episcopal Church of New Jersey, where the good-humored and long-suffering vicar joins her battle with shady real estate developers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Little League and Murder, Jan 7 2002
By
Moe811 (New York USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Unholy Angels (Mass Market Paperback)
The most hated man in Fisherville is planning to build a resort hotel on land that is now used as a little league field. Everyone in town is up in arms about it. A group of local kids burglarize his home, stealing several target pistols. The project is halted due to the fact that a state park was included in the parking area. The developer is found dead soon after. Who killed him? A rash of murders follows. Mother Lavinia Grey is determined to find the killer.

This is a very good Mother Lavinia mystery. There is alot of action and she has a new love interest. Detective Dogg has apparently gone back to his ex-wife. Fisherville is becoming a more interesting and a more dangerous place to live.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Amateur Detective With Good Insights., Nov 18 2000
By
Rosemary Brunschwyler (Homewood, Alabama, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Unholy Angels (Mass Market Paperback)
Mother Lavinia Grey is a priest at St. Bede's Episcopal Church in the quiet New Jersey river town of Fishersville. Freddy Kane, one of her cello students, and three other boys break into a house belonging to Bunker Todd, a greedy developer seeking to build a resort hotel on the town little league ball field, and steal several guns. When the police find Todd murdered near the bike path, there are several posible suspects. Mother Grey is an amateur detective who has an easy relationship with the few local police she encounters.Freddy in many ways resembles a modern Tom Sawyer. The book has a light-hearted tone but the denouement seems somewhat contrived.
