Existentialist Masterpiece,
By
This review is from: United 93 (Two-Disc Special Edition) (DVD)
I am writing this review to elaborate on the review issued by Amazon. The reviewer gives a mild endorsement of this brilliant film on the grounds that United 93's lack of catharsis leaves the viewer unsatisfied. Without catharsis, it is alleged that the horror depicted in the film is pointless. This argument misinterprets the film. The film powerfully captures existentialist ideas about making decisions when stripped of all other options. Quick editing, the use of steady-cams and shooting the action in real time are filmic techniques used masterfully to capture the intensity of having to make the drastic choices the people on United 93 had to make. Catharsis is an overused concept and I hope my review helps to clarify that United 93 is interested in the existential side of the tragedy in Pennsylvania. Rather than exploit the deaths of the passengers on that ill-fated flight five years ago to emotionally satisfy contemporary audiences, United 93 chooses to dramatize the hope present when people make difficult decisions under horrendous circumstances and avert a possible attack on the White House. Paul Greengrass deserves nothing but praise for this masterpiece.

A Total Fail - Fiction Completely,
This review is from: United 93 (Full Screen Edition) (DVD)
This movie was a completely inaccurate representation of Flight 93 hijacking by Ziad Jarrah.- Only the pilot knew English. The pilots in 9/11 were all chosen because of their education and knowledge of the West. - They didn't have bombs; kind of hard to fly a plane into a building, the Capitol, when you blow it up on the way there. (Stupid!) - Ziad Jarrah looked nothing like he did in the movie. - The muscle hijackers were mostly Saudi (they look Pakistani in the movie) and spoke Arabic. They were trained in hand-to-hand combat and throat cutting. etc. Fail. If you want a real understanding of 9/11, watch National Geographic: Inside 9/11 (Two DVD documentary).

Pure BS,
By
This review is from: United 93 (Two-Disc Special Edition) (DVD)
This, boys and girls, is a propaganda piece. Pure fiction.Besides the fact that no one calling their own mother direct would use his first AND last names: "Mom, this is Mark Bingham...you believe me, right??" Cell phones would not have worked from that altitude in 2001. Also, it's been admitted that United Airlines #93 was shot down. If you really want to know what happened on 9/11, buy the Alex Jones DVD "Terrorstorm."
