Storytelling at its best!,
By
This review is from: DCU: All-Star Superman [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
I love this entry into Superman's universe! In my mind, what differentiates a Superman story from any other superhero movies are the following items:- You must know that you're looking at the most powerful hero of them all (demonstration of his extreme super powers) - Even with all that power, Superman wants to do the right thing (by taking the high road) - Even with all that power, Superman can still feel sadness, pain and be hurt - That the threat is so great, that ONLY Superman can save the day and does so Based on these points, All-Star Superman delivers on all of them! The story does not lose time to explain why he suddenly becomes even more powerful than his ordinary self! So powerful indeed that we are given a few tasks to show how easily Superman now overcomes physical or intellectual tasks! The story then shifts to Lex Luthor and his new scheme to get Superman and we see all the ramifications of the plot on Superman's life, love and what it will mean for the world. Even after all the bad thing that is thrown at him, he still seeks to find what is good in every situation to solve the problem. The story culminates to a world-destroying confrontation where Superman has to sacrifice himself to save the world and he does so one last time. You can't be more selfless and heroic than that! The animation is superb! I tried watching the normal version vs the blu ray one and yes, the blu ray is extremely clear! I don't know about everyone, but in my case, I always end up moved by the ending! If a movie can do that, then I know it's a good one! :) Buy it, rent it or whatever, but you have to see it!

Another Solid Feature Film from the DC Universe,
This review is from: DC Universe All-Star Superman (DVD)
This movie kind of started out weak, but really picked up momentum the farther in you get. I found the part at the beginning where Lois and Superman are in the Fortress of Solitude to be a little forced and cheesy, and the use of lesser-known DC characters (that are apparently lesser-known for a reason) was questionable. However, the rest of the film was superb. I have never read the comic book All-Star Superman, by Grant Morrison, so I was riveted throughout the whole thing. I have, however, read the graphic novel "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow" and there are aspects that are common to both, particularly with the exploration of Superman and Lex Luthor's relationship. This really is a great Superman story, and it paints a meaningful picture of the Man of Steel that few stories manage to capture. I will no doubt read the graphic novel soon, in order to further explore this storyline and see how the movie and book compare.

DC Comics presents "ALL*STAR SUPERMAN" (2010) ~ (76 min/Color) ~ Starring: James Denton (Superman), Anthony LaPaglia (Lex Luthor), Christina Hendricks (Lois Lane), Ed Asner (Perry White), Matthew Gray Gubler (Jimmy Olsen), Linda Cardellini (Nasthalthia Luthor), Frances Conroy (Martha Kent)Directed by Sam Liu Producers Bruce Timm and Bobbie Page, Co-producer Alan Burnett and screenwriter Dwayne McDuffie, brings writer Grant Morrison's graphic novel to the screen with great animation. Voice acting is quite good pulling panels and pages and inserting into this animated movie. Being a fan of animation regardless if DC or Marvel, love when each reintroduces characters from the GOLDEN AGE OF COMICS. Film was quite good considering the area it must cover in this 76 minute adaptation, just couldn't fit the entire novel. cause they only have so much time. Superman shows he's just as smart as Lex, which in some comics it is not shown...good to see it in this story. You can see that he connects with the rest of the world, showing why Superman is so well received all over the World. Great scene with Superman and Martha Kent (his Mother) --- Lois Lane plays her character as an equal to Superman, when she receive special powers from her MAN OF STEEL.
