Terrific twang and tunes!, Sep 10 2006
This review is from: Unleashed (Audio CD)
Wow what a brilliant album, with plenty of variety, superb lyrics and great tunes throughout. It kicks off on a high note with the angry Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue which is followed by the catchy Who's Your Daddy with its wry lyric and rollocking beat. Next up is a song in Mariachi style, the lilting Good To Go To Mexico, one of the highlights on this great album. It's All Good is a slower, soulful love song with poetic lyrics like "covered in kises, surrounded by love, showered with blessings from up above." Beer For My Horses, the duet with Willie Nelson, is another excellent country song infused with rock power and an anthemic chorus. Losing My Touch is a sad mid-tempo break-up tale with gripping guitar twangs, whilst Huckleberry is a moving story song, also slow and tender. The up-tempo It Works For Me is a powerful affirmation with a singalong chorus, Aint't It Just like You is another song of love lost, and Rock You Baby an intense and passionate love ballad. The evocative and melancholy tale of the highways Rodeo Moon is followed by That's Not How It Is, a love song with plenty of tempo variation and soulful instrumentation. The album concludes with a live spoken introduction to the aforementioned first track. The music may sound like country overall but there's a fierce rock attitude. Toby Keith is a gifted and original wordsmith and the melodies are first class. Unleashed is a masterpiece of memorable songs.

Don't mess with America!, Jun 16 2004
This review is from: Unleashed (Audio CD)
"Courtesy of the red, white, and blue (The Angry American)", is by far my favorite Toby Keith song. Some of us no longer feel the pain, the anger, and the heartache that followed the attacks of September 11th, but I still feel proud when ever I hear this patriotic hit! It's a great reminder of how very strong we are as a people and it gives us confidence in the battle that lies ahead. It speaks of our feelings and it reminds us that WE ARE AMERICANS AND WE AIN'T BACKIN' DOWN! One of my favorite lines in the song is, "You'll be sorry that you messed with the US of A!" - how very true! Right now there crappin' in there caves and pissin' in there turbans - or is it the other way around? Well, you can bet your tail that there butts are sorry! We have lost so many GREAT men and women in this war but there service was not done in vain! People are now getting there first taste of freedom, America is safer, the world is more peaceful, evil is becoming less while good is becoming more. If not for the grace of our Lord and Savior and for the bravery of these great men and women, the world would be a MUCH darker place! We owe our troops our support, and we should pray for them daily. We should pray for America daily! Ronald Regan was right to be so optimistic about our future - we are a strong people, we are brave, we are patriotic, we are God-fearing (or God-loving if you like) and we have always prevailed! "Courtesy Of The Red, White, and Blue" is a song about victory, triumph, optimism (the opposite of liberalism) - it's a song about the American way! And to the ones here who don't love the red, white, and blue - YOU ARE FREE TO LEAVE! Good-bye, adios, Au revoir - vaya con Dios, traders! Justice will be served and the battle will rage!

Was Toby Keith ever 'leashed'? I think not!, Jun 13 2004
This review is from: Unleashed (Audio CD)
I have two copies of "Unleashed" -- one in my car and the other for my home stereo. Yes, I really like Toby Keith and this album in particular. The opening track, "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)," is one of the best country songs ever recorded. It's powerful, honest and pure Toby. Forget Natalie "Ignorant" Maines and Peter "Canuck" Jennings and their disapproval of Toby Keith and his down-to-earth style. It was popular because the song spoke from the heart and said what a lot of people were thinking after 9/11. The other songs here are fine examples of Toby Keith's immense talent. His duet with Willie Nelson -- "Beer For My Horses" -- is incredibly catchy and fun. The lyrics are about vigilante justice. And even though I'm personally anti-death penalty, TK is right in saying that justice isn't always swift in this country. Other songs like "Who's Your Daddy," Rodeo Moon" and "Huckleberry" are also quite memorable country songs that are among Toby Keith's best songs. If you don't have this album yet, don't delay, run down to your local record shop. Pick up two. You'll be glad you did.
