This review is from: Unlikely Attraction (Paperback)
Rina is still getting over the betrayal of her husband, William, after he abandoned her, running away with her equally married best friend, Lea. When she hears they have both died in a shipwreck she is hard pressed to even pretend to care. But fast forward one year and she is content with her simple country life, even if she is ambivalent about going back into town after the scandal. But that doesn't mean she's shy, she's more than willing to make friends with Kate, the adorable four year old she finds while out on a walk. But, she's not quite as willing to be friendly with Kate's father, Ellis, who just happens to be Lea's husband.
I really loved this book. Rina and Ellis come to love each other slowly and gradually as they bond over their love of Kate, while the pace is always wonderful and the author gives the reader enough happy moments to make the sad ones all the more crushing. This is one of those rare romances where, shockingly, the conflict doesn't come from a commitment phobic man or a deranged killer, but from an honest to goodness realistic external problem, or at least as realistic as things get in these books. They never stop loving each other and their devotion and also anger at each other is so real and touching. Every part of this book was satisfying and I'm just shocked that more people haven't read this gem.
If you like a regency with characters who are both likable yet flawed and a nearly insurmountable problem keeping these poor lovers apart this is the book for you. Sweetly touching.
