With four—oops, three now—human souls living inside his head, Aden has always been "different" himself. These souls can time-travel, raise the dead, possess another's mind and, his least favorite these days, tell the future.
The forecast for Aden? A knife through the heart.
Because a war is brewing between the creatures of the dark, and Aden is somehow at the center of it all. But he isn't about to lie down and accept his destiny without a fight. Not when his new friends have his back, not when Victoria has risked her own future to be with him, and not when he has a reason to live for the first time in his life….

Unraveled perfectly!,

I can now say with out a doubt that I am a fan of Gena Showalter. This 2nd book was really just as good as the first book Intertwined. So much happens; I can't believe all the horror, drama, love, and adventures this book had. I never got bored once with this book and I have fallen in love even more with the main characters. You never really know for sure what is going to happen and its fun watching it unfold. I thought with this series being a Harlequin Teen novel that it would be just romance and more romance, but it's not. I love that it has got the teen romance in it, but it also has so much more to the story. Of course they fight the evil all in the name of the one they love, but its still has so much more to the story. In this story Aden still has the "other souls" in his head, and struggles with what to do with them. If he finds away to get rid of them, then he will be sad without them. But if he keeps them, then he is denying not only himself his peaceful future of privacy but also the souls. He is head over heals in love, and so is Mary Ann with her love interest. So much happens with the witches, goblins, vampires and werewolves but I don't want to say too much to give anything away. Mary Ann's old boyfriend Tucker even has a pretty big part in this book and I'm sure even more in the next! This one leaves off on a pretty big cliff hanger and it sucks that I have to wait to find out more. I believe the next book is going to be called Twisted and is expected to come out sometime in September? Oh the wait!!

Aden Stone is not your typical teenage boy. He has a vampire princess for a girlfriend, a werewolf who is his best friend, and, oh yeah, he also has three souls who he shares his body with. When we left Aden in Gena Showalter's last book, INTERTWINED, he had killed the vampire who murdered his girlfriend's father. Sound confusing? It's really not. He who kills the King of the vampires, becomes the new King of the vampires. Even though Aden is human, he's now also the new King. As if being King wasn't enough, there are things happening that are going to make it even harder for Aden and Victoria to be together. Mary Ann's ex-boyfriend, Tucker, is back causing mischief. Aden, with help from Victoria, is learning about the vampires that he now rules. There is also someone who wants to do Aden harm - someone who is closer than he thinks. There were questions that were raised in book one that we get answered here, but there are even more questions raised in this new story. It was so nice to get insight into the characters introduced in the first book, though. Ms. Showalter has a knack for creating characters with fascinating lives. More importantly, she has a way of making you feel for her characters, even the ones that you would rather hate. INTERTWINED was so exciting that you had to wonder if she'd be able to hold up the quality in this next book. Well, she did, and this is one reader who is definitely looking forward to the rest of the story. Although I must say that I enjoyed book one more, UNRAVELED really doesn't disappoint. Great concepts, but there's just too much happening at once,

A lot happened to Aden in the first novel, and when this second story begins, he's suffering from the after-effects of bites from two different vampires, and his symptoms include seeing the world through both their eyes (well, through one of them's ears, since he's already dead). Also, "Aden shared his head with three other human souls. More than that, each soul possessed a supernatural ability. Julian could raise the dead. Caleb could possess other bodies. And Elijah could predict the future" (pg 9). Aden used to have a fourth power tied to the fourth soul he carried around, a lady-soul who could take him time-traveling. This lost soul was the deceased mother of Aden's friend Mary Ann. Mary Ann's special power is dampening paranormal abilities, and she's dating Riley, the werewolf bodyguard of Aden's vampire princess girlfriend Victoria. Victoria's dad was Vlad the Impaler, whom Aden killed in book one, making him the de facto leader of the vampires, even though he's still human. The recaps present the information in a very understandable way, which was helpful. I wasn't ever really confused while reading, but I was very overwhelmed at times. Some examples of where I was overwhelmed with all the details : -Victoria can hypnotize people, has the power of teleportation, and is also possessed by a sort of demonic beast. -Aden is taken to Fairy Tale, the Fae dimension, and attacked by a Victoria-hating fairy who later becomes a vengeful fairy ghost. -Tucker, Mary Ann's half-demon ex-boyfriend (who got her best friend Penny pregnant) shows up and may be involved in some shady paranormal dealings. -The vampires are threatened by fairies, goblins, and witches, and Mary Ann, Riley, Victoria and Aden are under a death spell that will kill them all if they don't meet with the witches within five days. Then there are some logical problems: -Vlad is dead, but the vamps decide to let his body sit around for two full weeks, so they can be certain he won't rise. But no one wants him back, so it seems like the best way to make sure he won't rise is to just incinerate the remains. -Mary Ann's power-dampening abilty only seems to be effective at random intervals, because she can't stop Riley from turning into a wolf or stop Victoria from hypnotizing, teleporting, or drinking blood. There are good parts, of course. 1. Aden and Mary Ann are both very concerned with doing the right thing and protecting those they love. 2. It's wonderufl to see a strong platonic friendship between a girl and a guy in YA, and Aden and Mary Ann carry it off very well. 3. Mary Ann learns self-defense and trains herself so that she can keep up with her supernatural friends and not be a liability. 4. Both couples are sweet and go out of their way to show their genuine affection. The story has a solid, entertaining core, but the embellishments are overwhelming. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful

Review by Patricia's Particularity,

Gena Showalter's second installment to her Intertwined series picks up after were Intertwined leaves off. Aden is the new king of the vampires, haven defeated Vlad, despite his attempt to "side step" his new role. Mary Ann is oddly acceptive of haven fallen for a werewolf, Riley, who in turn is Aden's vampire girlfriend's, Victoria, body guard and Aden's new guard. Sounds confusing? Oddly enough Gena Showalter has managed to separate and bring together many plot lines together without any confusion. As a king Aden has acquired some new and unusual responsibilities, that is if he can keep from being literally sucked dry by his new Vampire subjects. Aden is required to make decisions that might seem trivial to others (allowing more colors into the Vampire world) and to date other female vampires than Victoria - all of which he does not take seriously there could be a dire revolt in the near future. Then there is Marry Ann. Out of all the characters in this installment I would have to say that Mary Ann is the one that is developed the most and thus grows the most. Mary Ann discovers she is no longer the only "human" of this group, and more so she might find herself separating herself from them permanently as she could kill them. If there weren't enough problems for this entire crew, they all could die from a death curse placed on them by witches. What paranormal creatures are not in this book? You have vampires, werewolves, trapped souls, witches, faeries, goblins, demons, and much more! When Aden and Mary Ann are not running away from poisonous goblins that love to eat humans, they are trying to find a witch to interrogate to stay alive. There are many reasons to fully enjoy this novel. While very few new characters are introduced, Gena Showalter is constantly testing her characters and their strengths, both physically and mentally. How much can one person take?! Well, in Crossroads, Oklahoma apparently a lot. As I've already noted, Gena Showalter has created numerous plots all of which she fleshes out both individually as well as intertwining them together. It becomes clear that each plot line and situation is dependent on all the others. The entire time you feel like you are standing on the top of a house of cards, waiting for that one thing that makes them all come tumbling down. You are constantly on the edge of your seat!! 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful

Pre-release customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program
Getting through this second book in the series actually made me anticipate the 3rd release set for September 2011. I found it to be a bit more interesting than it's predecessor, because it involved a lot more detail and interconnection in the story lines. Completely unbelievable connections, but at least it weaved and wound its' way to develope further story lines within the current story lines. This is not a book for anyone looking for anything more than just a way to pass the time and observe a very fantasy laced story line. For me, it's less than average in quality and interest, but not completely worthless. I will likely read the next installment, but at this point it would have to become amazing for me to consider reading beyond 3 books in this genre.
