4.0 out of 5 stars better then the ut2003, Oct 16 2003
This review is from: Unreal Tournament 2004 Special Edition (CD-ROM)
I went on the tour epic had set up and was able to play it,and i must say it was fun to play. The game play is much better the their first attempt at UT2003 i would suggest that any one that enjoyed UT2003 a little bit should get this.I played only the beta of the game and it was running real good in the beta and you can only guess on how this one will be.The new modes and the old Assault add ons where a blast to play and had alot more of the old UT99 version which so many of us loved to play. The weapons have a better look to them then what the 03 version did. They really concentrated on the game play aspect of he game more then the graphical part this time around which was a good this.I realy do think people will have a better idea of what it will be like when the demo comes out.The air crafts and tanks where a new thing which i think is coming along nicely. The insanely large maps will certainly help the vehicle part of the game since bases wont be to close where you can shoot from your base and still hit theirs. There is the old sniper rifle witch is a old welcome and this has its own built in camper block if you will, where as the UT99 version did not.every time they shoot a sniper rife it shoot out smoke of the end of the pipe to show where the sniper is as well as it stop him from camping a exit/entrance of the a base. There are some new weapons that i wont talk about so i don't mess up all of the goodies which i saw and had a blast fragging people with and so if you will to wait for the demo you will see what i mean.
The reason i game it a 4 was because i could not warrant a 5 start since i only played the beta.I will get this and so should you.
I would say this to all people planing on getting the game, play the demo first so if its not your cup of tea then you say your self some money. But if you want a better demo don't put pressure on them to rush the demo like 03 was.pressure them to make a new and better product.I am Willing to wait and so should you.

5.0 out of 5 stars What UT2k3 should've been., Mar 5 2004
By
Matieu (Quebec Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Unreal Tournament 2004 Special Edition (CD-ROM)
It is obvious when first entering the world of Unreal Tournament 2004 that it is all that Unreal Tournament 2003 should've been. The new onslaught mode alone makes the game complete and fully worth the ticket price as it is one game mode that rivales with BF1942, Call of Duty or any other game that involves warfare. The assault mode is also much better than in previous installations and the new weapons and vehicules are very well balanced, easy to navigate and often offer a thrilling and user friendly way to enjoy the vast environments.

The 3d engine was vastly revamped and now supports machines that UT2k3 couldn't. The AI was vastly ameliorated and the Voice-Chat technology is fast, seamless and a very nice addition that once you use you wonder how you got along without it in all of the games you've played previously.

This game is a must own for any respectful PC First Person shooter enthusiast, period.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like wasting people in new and creative ways..., Mar 4 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Unreal Tournament 2004 Special Edition (CD-ROM)
UT 2004 promises to be one of the best first person shooters. Ever. The game will ship with nearly (?) a hundered maps. It has several different game modes which vary the play style considerably. And of course, now there are vehicles (My personal favorite from the demo is the Goliath Tank - there's just something about squishing the bad guy under the treads of your tank while sending that annoying little hovercraft tubling into the air with a well placed shot from the big gun to take the edge off the day).

If you haven't downloaded the demo yet, head over to unreal.com and get it. If you don't enjoy the demo, you won't enjoy the game. In my opinion it's one of the best "polished" demos ever.

For me, the part that makes it worth while is the fact that (once again) the unreal editor is packaged with the game (this is the same utility the creators used to put the game together). This mean that UT2004 won't "get stale" for years to come. Within weeks (at most) of release there will be countless new maps and mods to keep the game varied and fresh. Considering the special DVD edition ships with over 150 hours of game design tutorials, the new content may become overwhelming (we can hope.)

Try the Demo, you won't regret it
