Review

"Jenna Lamia's narration contributes atmosphere, meaning, and focus to the complex plot and characters. She uses an array of voices and accents to allow listeners to envision male and female vampyres, fledglings, cats, regular humans, undead teens, and more." – School Library Journal

"Jenna Lamia’s young voice transports us back to high school complete with the mental eye rolls, angst and fashion problems that consume all teenagers…Definitely ear candy." – SoundLibrary.com

Book Description

Life sucks when your friends are pissed at you. Just ask Zoey Redbird – she’s become an expert on suckiness. In one week she has gone from having three boyfriends to having none, and from having a close group of friends who trusted and supported her, to being an outcast. Speaking of friends, the only two Zoey has left are undead and unMarked. And Neferet has declared war on humans, which Zoey knows in her heart is wrong. But will anyone listen to her?  Zoey's adventures at vampyre finishing school take a wild and dangerous turn as loyalties are tested, shocking true intentions come to light, and an ancient evil is awakened in PC and Kristin Cast's spellbinding fourth House of Night novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book Four, Aug 15 2008

Zoey Redbird feels lower than she ever has in her life. Yesterday she had three boyfriends and today she has zero. Yesterday she had a close circle of friends and today none of them trust her. Yesterday Aphrodite was her nemesis and today she is the only one Zoey can confide in or trust.

Changes are still occurring so often that it seems all logic has disappeared from the world. It takes Aphrodite, ironically enough, to slap Zoey's former circle of friends into line. It better be fast too, because Neferet has announced a declaration of war against humans.

Help comes in the unexpected arrival of Shekinah, High Priestess of ALL vamps. Stopping the war before it began was simple for Shekinah; however, figuring out what is really happening at Oklahoma's House of Night will be extremely difficult. Neferet's acting abilities cast a dim light on Zoey's character, as well as those of her circle. Seems that Neferet has changed her loyalties from Nyx to Chaos and an ancient evil is about to be released upon an unsuspecting world.

***** There is so much going on in this installment that I cannot give a complete synopsis of it all. Stevie Rae and the other undead kids play a huge role this time. The situation with Erik has radically altered, but he is still a solid secondary character. Heath is mentioned only a bit and a new (famous) fledgling transfers in from the Chicago House of Night. Yet still, there is much more.

Again it is a cliffhanger ending and many readers will find themselves totally frustrated, but that also means there will be a fifth book and it will begin with a bang! Zoey's adventures are like catnip to felines. Delicious! *****

5.0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too, Sep 12 2008
Zoey Redbird just can't seem to get it right.

After losing three potential boyfriends, alienating her closest vampyre buddies, and incurring the wrath of her mentor, Neferet, Zoey is on a downward spiral to Loserville. This young high priestess-in-training has a lot on her plate since transferring to the House of Night. Her abilities are creating quite a stir on campus and Zoey is not used to having all the attention on her.

Since her recent admittance into the vampyre school, things have changed, and not for the better.

Professors are being murdered, fledglings are disappearing, and Neferet has declared war on all humans. Stevie Rae, Zoey's best friend, has been transformed into another type of vampyre, and Aphrodite, Zoey's one-time nemesis, has regained her humanity, but continues to have life-altering visions. Zoey must use all of her abilities to unite those who wish to save the House of Night and its loyal inhabitants.

The Cast duo has created yet another excellent addition to the HOUSE OF NIGHT series. It is easy to see why these novels have become so popular; the stories are well-written, and the dialogue is at times extremely clever and sometimes biting. Young adult readers can relate to the mundane, everyday-ness of Zoey's activities (i.e.going to class, having arguments with friends, etc.), while losing themselves in the otherworldly aspects of the students' lives.

This is a definite must-read for fans of the House of Night!

3.0 out of 5 stars Dreaming of Books Review, Feb 20 2011

This review is from: Untamed (Hardcover)
(May Contain Spoilers)

After reading Chosen, I had such expectations for Untamed. For the first half of the book I just couldn't get into the story. I think it was slow because the entire book takes place in a span of just a couple of days. Not a lot happened in the first half to move the plot along and there was so much referencing of things that happened in the story already.

From the book summary on the back of the book it sounded like Zoey's friends have deserted her, which wasn't the case. They made up pretty quickly once they realized why Zoey kept so many things from them. There's a new character that's introduced. His name is Stark and he's just transferred from the House of Night in Chicago. Zoey and Stark form a connection after their heart to heart talk but Stark is unable to go through the Change and dies. I was skeptical of the connection that Zoey said she felt for Stark. Basically because they've just met and barely know each other.

Most of the "good stuff" takes later in the book. You find out what Neferet is really up to and an ancient evil is released forcing Zoey and her group of friends to flee from the House of Night and go into hiding.
