4.0 out of 5 stars Very worth-while film, Sep 8 2006

I just saw this film a few weeks ago at the Vancouver queer film festival, Out On Screen, and thought it was quite good. The film offers a message of hope and perseverence in a world that is all to often difficult to be one's self in. I was reminded of how profoundly lucky I am to live where I do.

"Unveiled" is a good film, not just a lesbian movie.

Enjoying foreign films of all types, I found this one extremely interesting and rewarding. It starts with the difficulties of refugees in Germany: will they be able to stay or will they be sent back? Fariba is in Germany having fled Iran because of a lesbian affair for which she was imprisoned by the authorities, now awaiting her fate at the hands of German authorities. To stay in Germany she takes the place of a young man who died, gets work illegally in a factory where she meets a woman named Anne, and deals with difficulties posing as a man and working illegally. She is neither triumphant nor defeated through this experience, producing a very realistic feeling in an unusual and absorbing story. I liked it very much.

4.0 out of 5 stars pretty good, May 11 2006

I think this movie was pretty good. It kind of reminded me of Boys don't cry. Its about a girl who flees Iran, for her love of another woman, and if she returns she is executed. She goes to Germany disguised as a man, and falls in love with a girl. The girl finds out shes a girl and still loves her but the girls ex- husband is upset. I wont tell you more, but the ending kind of leaves you hanging. There is an okay love-making scence. I would reconmend it!
