Book Description

We are all, as Erwin Raphael McManus states, broken pieces of the image of God. And as Christians, too often we talk about Gods ability to change lives without fully understanding how to access that power.
The reason is simple: we ourselves have never been radically transformed. McManus explains how many people unknowingly block God from changing us and teaches readers the texture of the heart required to unleash Gods transforming power within us. He also demonstrates the passion and purpose that lie ahead when we undertake the journey that leads us to the true source, the very character of God. Fascinating stories from McManuss personal life and ministry, paired with fresh biblical teaching and profound insights, will astonish and challenge readers to break free from negative habits, destructive emotions, and other strongholds that hinder lasting transformation and to turn toward a life marked by enlightenment, nobility, and virtue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deep insights on deep character, Feb 19 2004
By
I have never read another book quite like this. Erwin has an amazing ability to speak straight to your soul. It is as if his words have the ability to create a canal from your brain directly to your heart. So many times, I had to put down the book to gasp for breath, ashamed at the level of life I am currently living and enthralled by the possiblity of eventual and heroic change.

Erwin breakdown the chucky virtures of Faith, Hope and Love to a mirco level, making it easier for them to permeate into our system to produce the kind of person and the level of living Jesus calls us to.

Breathtaking, enlarging and dangerously poetic, this book is truly nothing short of a Revolution.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book helped me the most., Dec 20 2003
I bought all three of the author's books at the same time. I tried to read them in the order, in which he wrote them, but found this book to be the only one I could read immediately. As the Quakers say, "it spoke to my condition. "

I didn't ever think that "wholeness" as McManus writes of it was possible. As a member of a twelve step group, I thought of myself in recovery not recovered. But McManus points out that your brokenness can be healed. This doesn't mean you are perfect, but your focus no longer has to be on yourself.

I found that what he says is true as a spiritual healing has just taken place in my life. I really appreciate McManus explanation of spiritual wholeness. I've never heard anyone explain it before.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well...It broke me, Nov 12 2003
This is McManus' third book and is directed towards inner character and passion for Christ. I could not read a chapter without examining my own life to see where I stood in areas of forgiveness, gratitude, and wisdom. I highly recommend this to you.
