This book doesn't really say a great deal about children who have Autism or Asperger Syndrome, since much of it can really be applied to typically-developing children as well. Pages like "I am genuinely goodhearted" and "I am a good neighbour" don't teach a great deal about PDD. As well, be forewarned that this is really an alphabet book, so if you're looking for a book with a *story* this will not help you at all. I can see children reading this on their own and missing the point entirely, because it will not tell them anything about the children in their classroom who might be a little different from them. It doesn't say anything about what Autism is, or what Asperger Syndrome is, so as an educator I have to say it isn't a great teaching tool.

While I'm always glad to find books that attempt to "include," I was disappointed that this didn't deliver more.

This book is a welcome celebration of the unique and special qualities of my son. It was heartwarming and powerful for family members to share this charming picture book and for them to be able to identify so many of his positive qualities as being traits that can be so often associated with autism. This is empowering for my son, who knows he has autism. We tell him that autism makes some things more challenging and some things easier for him. Seeing the strengths in print like this was affirming for him. My older daughter was also positively affected by reading the book. She is a bright and socially gifted 15 year old girl. I could see her opinion of her brother and her appreciation of him shift visibly as we shared this book during a quiet time together. She was able to identify and relate to so many positive aspects of her brother that she loves and make him the wonderful and amazing boy that he is.
