To tell the truth, the new crop of young Asian violinists every year does not normally impress me a great deal; but Tinwa Yang is an exception. She plays with great verve and marvellous facility, and her intonation is spot on.

Sarasate's "Fantasy on Carmen" is basically a medley of all Bizet's various tunes, and it's a lot of fun. The other pieces are also very enjoyable, and the orchestra and recording are both excellent.

I've been listening to this album over and over in the car. My wife, who is a violinist, liked it too.

The total time is 58'22".

The three CDs of Sarasate's music for violin and orchestra, issued by Naxos, which feature China's Tianwa Yang, violinist, and Spain's Orquesta Sinfonica de Navarra conducted by Ernest Martinez Izquierdo, offer wonderful listening enjoyment and reveal the remarkable diversity and inventiveness of Sarasate's music. Yang's skill is astounding. She can surprise and convince even the most sceptical critic.

The fantasies on Carmen are delightful, not only with their thematic familiarities, but with their delightfully embroidered innovations. Concert Fantasy of Gonoud's Romeo et Juliette is the showpiece of this recording, giving the listener a fabulously beautiful panorama of magical virtuosity. The Canciones Rusas, inspired by Russian folk songs, authentically reflect folkloric lyricism, including lilting pizzicato balalaika effects per Yang. The Jota de Pablo provides the Spanish flavour par excellence.

The recording quality is not the very best but certainly tolerable at the bargain price.

Good music...good seller Dec 28 2010

We saw Tianwa Yang perform Prokofiev's violin concerto #1 with the Baltimore Symphony and sat in awe of her musical abilities. I just had to have more of her performance music for my library. Hearing her play music from Carmen is very entertaining. You wouldn't be disappointed with this CD. The seller provided quick delivery service and the product was in brand new condition even though it was listed as used.

I love schmaltz Jan. 12 2014

What can I say about these pieces....I was raised on them like countless others of my generation. Injected into the stories to heighten the drama of the old black and white movies of the 1940's...starring actors such as SZ Cuddles Sakall...this music is reminiscent of a by gone era...When Hungarians ruled Old Hollywood, where artist were featured such as the likes of Yehudi Menuhin and made wonderful movies such as .Christmas in Connecticut and all that pitchy-putchy charm ...Love'm or hate'm, they are well played by this artist. Not a Joshua Bell, but quite good.
