Great exposure for children to the language &music of France, Jan 8 2002

This review is from: V1/2 Chante Pour Les Enfants ( (Audio CD)
Of all the foreign language CD's for children that I have listened to so far, this one is by far the best. The music is top notch, and the beautiful voice of Sylvie Vartan is captivating. In addition, unlike some of the Uni Verse and Baby's 1st CDs, the quality of the recording itself is top notch. There is no hint of that slightly "muffled" sound, or irritating "hollow echo" effect that is the signature of inferior sound engineering and equipment.
I bought this and several other children's foreign language CD's as a way of accustomizing my 1 year old daughters ear to the nuances of other languages, as well as throwing in some "fun" music. This CD succeeds at fulfilling that purpose, despite the fact there is no English translation provided. However, that was expected considering that this is a French import.
Here is what Francevision.com has to say:
In the 1960's Sylvie Vartan was the ultimate "yé-yé" girl. Today she is a seasoned chanteuse and a grandmother as well, sophisticated and still down-to-Earth. She brings all of this to her new collection of children's songs. The production is contemporary but still aimed for the youngsters, with fun, upbeat versions of classics like "Il y a longtemps que je t'aime/ Jamais je ne t'oublierais". The accompaniment is simple, and her nuanced vocals add depth.
Vartan has created a wonderful album that will appeal to both adults and children. In addition, the packaging is thoughtfully designed and features a lyric booklet, several fold-out sections and a spot for a photo of your own child.

A Wonderful Collection by a Fabulous Singer, Dec 27 2002

Both the song selection and the arrangements are just beautiful. My daughter, who attends a French immesion kindergarten and is learning French for the first time this year, and I enjoy listening to this album again and again. The inclusion of some children's voices on some of the selections is an added plus. Some of the songs are familar to Americans, but most will be new but are easy to learn and very memorable. The lyrics are also included in the CD notes. This is probably the best of about 10 "children's French music" CDs we own.

Beautiful, but..., Aug 2 2003

I wanted to love this CD after reading the reviews. And I do but... several of the songs are not in the right range (too low) for children to sing along with.
