Accurately subtitled "A Vital Collection of Canadian Music," this whopping four-disc set chronicling Canuck talent bookends the equally ambitious Vol. 1, which dropped in 1996 on the silver anniversary of the Juno Awards. Top guns like Alanis Morissette, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Shania Twain, the Tragically Hip, Bryan Adams, Sarah McLachlan, Leonard Cohen, and Diana Krall are mixed with less prominent but no less engaging acts. There's excellent representation of Canadian music through the years and genres--the early hip-hop of the Dream Warriors, the progressive beats of Len, the raging rock of Rush, Red Rider, and Kim Mitchell/Max Webster plus the angular pop of the Rheostatics, Sloan, the Barenaked Ladies, Bran Van 3000, Jane Siberry, 54-40, and Ashley MacIsaac. Heck, they even dust off Klaatu, quoting their cover of the Carpenters' "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" from their wiggy '70's concept album, Hope. There's also a rare gem in the Kings' blunted classic, "Switchin' to Glide/This Beat Goes On," which sounds as cheeky now as it did back in the day. One-stop shopping for 77 of the best (or arguably so) Canadian songs ever recorded. --Kim Hughes

4.0 out of 5 stars Oh What A Feeling 2: Juno Awards Collection of Canadian Artists, July 10 2010
This review is from: V2 Oh What A Feeling (Audio CD)
If you've liked Canadian pop & rock over the years, this set is a good collection of the most popular acts Canada has had to offer. Most of these songs were hits in both the U.S. and Canadian pop charts. There is also a variety of genres presented in this set, ranging from hard rock to folk.

5.0 out of 5 stars great!, Sep 23 2008

i really enjoyed this compilation. i'm usually hesitant in the compilation department because i enjoy variation... i can't listen to the same kind of music for too long without getting somewhat frustrated, but this collection was great! so many different genres were represented, and by fabulous artists no less. they have the classics like the band, the guess who, rush and such, but they also have modern stuff like barenaked ladies, our lady peace and great big sea. there are also the much appreciated presence of artists such as susan aglukark, snow, and ashley macisaac. ... it's good.

of course it doesn't have everything... it's true completion could only come with some hard core metal.. which they understandably lack (as it's not exactly mainstream or easy listening.. but w/e)

this is the first of this series i've encountered, but i think i will check the others out. decent overview.

3.0 out of 5 stars Like nailing jello to a wall, Feb 28 2005

I truly did not want to be critical of this collection -- as it contains many wonderful songs (with many personal memories attached for many Canadians aged 30 to 50 somethings. However, despite its attempt to group these songs by genre on each CD, for me, their still too diverse to hang together (i.e., be listenable). Perhaps I am just to attached to many of the songs separately... This set, is however, a very good introduction for appreciators of Canadian music, and people under 30...
Cheers

PS. One more complaint. Did Celine's "Titanic Song" really have to be included here... jezzzzzzz! Holy smaltzy, Batman!
