It was the best of times... because of the music

It was the 80's. If you weren't listening to R&B, Top 40 or this new fad called Rap music you still had choices. House music was bustin out of Chicago but something big was brewing in New York and Miami. It was a vibrant, intoxicating fusion of the vocal styles found in 70's disco music, flavored with a splash of spicy Latin seasoning and topped with the syncopated, synthetic instrumentation of the 80's. It was nothing we had ever heard before.
This CD is a great compilation of some of the stars that eclipsed the Freestyle genre. They include Shannon, the queen of freestyle; the intoxicating deadpan vocals of Johnny O; the exciting, sexy first ladies of freestyle, "The Cover Girls"; the "Princess of Freestyle" with the clear, cutesy, intoxicating voice, "Nocera"; and the sexy, sultry, Joyce Sims who had the first freestyle record to cross over into the R&B market. Cynthia, with her strong but rangeless voice was a sleeper of the genre but is more than adaquate with "Change on Me" and the hypnotic cuddly Connie will make even the dullest stiff start to move their feet.
Note: In the DC/Balt. region we didn't call this genre of music freestyle, we called it "Club or Dance mix" but who cares.
This is a colorful, well-compiled set of 80's dance music that I recommend highly to anyone who lived through those glorious "Spring" days.
I also believe this is (along with house music) the most underrated genres of music to ever hit the airwaves.
Conclusion: Worth the price of admission, BUY IT!!!

All the songs on this CD are Freestyle classics. Especially the hard to find "Show Me (The Nest Mix)" by The Cover Girls and the original "Funky Little Beat" by Connie. Sandee's "Notice Me" is also a must have and hard to find classic since she passed away. Highly recommended for all Freestyle fans.
