Are you up to "snuff" for this thriller?,
By
This review is from: Vacancy (Widescreen) (DVD)
Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson star as a fallen-out couple who experience car troubles on the road. They eventually end up in a dirty motel in the middle of nowhere to spend the night. Sounds like something you and I have seen at least a dozen times. But "vacancy" does feel somewhat unique due to the snuff film idea, where the couple are watching tapes of previous guests being brutally murdered in the very same room they're staying in. The constant surveillance and monitoring gives it a nice touch of Hitchcock voyeurism. This is a very fast-paced thriller that clocks in at only 85mns. No filler material here. "Vacancy" is a 5-star movie on the entertaining scale, 4-star in terms of overall quality. Highly, highly recommended.

this is a great movie in the genre of suspense/thriller genre .it doesn't rely on blood and gore to be successful.rather,it relies on the build up of tension and suspense and succeeds very well in that aspect.this is a real pulse racer throughout much of it's short running time(85 minutes)the film doesn't suffer from being as short as it is.it is very fast paced.there are a few blood curdling moments in this one.the two main characters are not overly developed, but we are given as much information as we need.the sense of danger and terror that these two feel is very well articulated.you fell what they feel.at least,i did.Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale are the two leads and are very convincing.Wilson really impressed me in a serious role.what the two are up against is frightening, to say the least.the supporting performances are also great. the movie is not necessarily original.it does borrow from other movies in the suspense/thriller genre and others.but it works so well with the material that it doesn't matter.i really enjoyed this movie and highly recommend it. 4.5/5

I saw only part of this movie on TV while I was on vacation in Cuba.
My husband and I couldn't stop watching it. We ended up watching the rest of the movie. Now I want to watch the beginning of the movie because it wasn't half bad.
