5.0 out of 5 stars It's all in the name. Feb 4 2013

Vade Mecum is a necessary component of the CthulhuTech experience. It includes rules for Xenomix characters, the children of the Nazzadi and Humanity, as well as Para-Psychics, a class that probably should have been in the core book. The decision to leave them out of the core book was not based on greed, but rather based on not initially intending for the character types to be playable characters. After several protests (and begging sessions) from the fans, Vade Mecum was released with the material. These two additions to the plot add depth and conflict just by existing and can only add to your game at home. Also included are new Aquatic Mecha for every faction, new classes, new enemies, new optional rules for a more painful combat experience, martial arts rules, and new adventure outlines. Translated from Latin, Vade Mecum has two translations: "handbook" or "useful thing." This book was quite aptly named.

5.0 out of 5 stars Underrated Game, Underrated Supplement Mar 14 2012

Vade Mecum adds in a lot of flavor for the setting; whereas the core book does a fairly good job of explaining the setting, character roles, and history, Vade Mecum does a pretty good job of fleshing in the details. As the "Players' Companion" book it also explores anime-esque psychic powers in the form of Para-Psychics and Zoners; imagine taking Akira-type psychics and giving them a Cthulhu mythos twist.

As usual, the book is rife with the small points of fiction. Some people love the fiction, some people hate it, some feel it pads out the size of the book, some people think it's a welcome introduction to the concepts and situations discussed therein. When I think of other game systems such as Shadowrun, and how they use "in character" chatter from NPCs in a setting, I don't think the fiction in the CthulhuTech series is that obtrusive.

Rated Cthulhutech Vade Mecum with 5 stars for the very early arrival which was niffty. The book itself is a great companion alongside the core book Cthulhutech and i recommend buying this before any other book in the Cthulhutech series.
