3.0 out of 5 stars Lured by Lore Jan 3 2011
Format:Paperback
I asked for this book for Christmas because I REALLY wanted to knit the Lore Hoodie featured on the cover. That pattern is great and maybe one or two others are knittable but I could do without the rest of cheesy/kitschy patterns in the the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vampire Inspired! Oct 5 2010

Excellent projects from start to finish. They even include a werewolf section. Fun trivia through out the book. Simple to intermediate projects from cute fishnet gloves to sleek shrugs and capelets. Your only problems will be what yarn to use to suit your style.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for vampire lovers Sep 23 2010
By Kathy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I can't tell you how much I love this book. I've loved vampires since watching Dark Shadows when I was growing up, all the way through Lestat and now Twilight. So, this book was a must for me. I knew that I'd love it because it had to do with two of my favorite things, vampires and knitting, but I didn't expect it to be as nice as it is. And not just the photography - beautiful photography is common in knitting books. Where this book stands out is this - the patterns are all on pages that are kind of yellowed and old looking with a gothic font, there are little "tid-bites" of vampire information on just about every page, there are two vampire quizzes, and there is even a page of tips on getting blood out of our knitting! That sounds kind of funny, but it's really very practical! Each chapter has kind of a theme and there is a little paragraph at the beginning of each one. The author's writing is really good - informative and yet with a sense of humor. I thought I knew quite a bit about vampires, but I learned a lot from this book that I didn't know.

As for the patterns, they are really nice. They are mostly accessories, which are my favorite thing to knit anyway. There are socks, scarves, capes, bags, hats, etc. A lot of them have kind of a gothic feel to them, but not so much that anyone couldn't wear most of them. There are a few with vampire sayings on them, but if you wanted to make them without the sayings or change them, that would be easy to do.

I wouldn't think twice about buying this book. I buy knitting books all the time and this is one of the most unique books I have and I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Book; Cool but Practical Patterns Oct 11 2010
By vcastro - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The photos in this book are lovely. The book is called "Vampire Knits" and that is initially why I had to have it, but all the patterns could be used in other colors -- or even As-Is -- and never be associated with anything "vampire". There are a few kitschy patterns, but mostly they are just lovely, adaptable patterns. It was the kitschy patterns that caught my eye and made this a have-to-have book for me, but it is the practical ones that will keep me coming back to "Vampire Knits" -- that hoodie is TDF- and I'm way too old to say "TDF". :)

I haven't checked to see if my copy is one of the apparently-few books that have missing and repeated pages, but even if it does, I know that Amazon and the publisher will make good and swap it out for me. That is a publishing snafu and even IF mine is one of the defective, I will still give this book a five-star.

I'm almost finished with the Tourniquet Scarf for my son; he can't wait for the weather to get cool enough to wear it.

I love the premise of the book, the patterns and the photos.

I just hope the next book is 'Zombie Knits' :)

5.0 out of 5 stars This book makes me push myself Sep 20 2010

I was so excited to get this item in the mail, but I was a little dismayed at how much lacework is in the book. However, I would not be beaten, the patterns were just too beautiful, so I dove in. I am currently working on the Shapeshifter Shawl and it is coming out beautifully. I never thought I would be knitting at this level, but the items in this book gave me the push I needed.
