One of the things that I loved about the movie was the beautiful, but haunting music by Composer Alan Silvestri. Silvestri's musical score is excellent. I had trouble finding this cd in my local stores -- it was always sold out! Finally, after numerous unsuccessful attempts, I purchased it from Amazon and it arrived quickly. I love all of the music; but, these are my favorites:
1. Transylvania 1887
4. Journey to Transylvania
5. Attacking Brides
7. Useless Crucifix
11. Final Battle
This cd is enhanced and it contains a nice photo gallery from the movie as well as video game information. I'm not usually a major fan of monster movies; but, I loved this movie and it's exquisite soundtrack and I hope you do also.
Even from the opening scenes of "Van Helsing," I knew I had to buy this soundtrack. The terrific vocals and powerful score bring in mind Holst's "Mars" (also a strong influence in the film GLADIATOR'S opening battle sequence), Orff's "O Fortuna" from Carmina Burana, THE LORD OF THE RINGS' battle sequences music, Mussorsky's "Night of the Bald Mountain" from FANTASIA and the OMEN'S choruses. I am a huge fan of this type of powerful operatic classical music and this soundtrack has quickly become one of my favorite soundtracks.
Oh, if only Alan Silvestri had composed the score for the movie "Troy" then it would've become an even more powerful and stirring film!
I like all of the tracks but the highlights for me would be "Transylvania 1887," "Journey to Transylvania," "The Attacking Brides," "Transylvanian Horses" and "All Hallows Eve Ball."
If you enjoyed this soundtrack then I would also recommend "Simply the Best Classical Anthems" - a masterful compilation of amazing classical works to include Orff, Mussorgsky, Verdi, Holst and others. "Van Helsing" is an amazing score that is stirring and heart-pounding. Highly recommended!
But great as it is, I feel Silvestri has overdone the percussion on some of the tracks. They get too loud and dominant at times, and if the volume was a little too high you very well may start getting a headache that pounds along with the percussion beats.
Having said that though, I still say this soundtrack is a really good one. If you've watched the movie, you shouldn't miss the soundtrack either.
Long one of my favorites, Alan Silvestri proves once again why he deserves to be in the A-list of modern movie composers.
Anyone who knows of this gentleman's work, knows he capable of absolute masterworks (Back to the Future, Predator), so it should come as no surprise when he cranks out another effort of sheer genius.
Unlike those other blind souls out there who somehow killed off their inner ten year old, I lOVED this film. If you can simply respect what KIND of film maker Stephen Sommers is, and love and appreciate the kind of movies his style and identity brings forth, you'll have a GREAT time.
You should NOT expect the serious tone or gravity of Lord of the Rings with this. It's NOT that kind of film. It's essentially a GREAT B-monster movie with huge stars and amazing special effects. Watching this film, (if you can just GO with it and like it for what it IS) you will feel like your in Disney's Space Mountain (if it mated with the Haunted Mansion!)...So much fun...
Anyway, the score is just as good. We have brilliant percussion work, frightening war-like themes around every corner, and a hero theme that is one for the ages.
Alan NAILED this one. It's a blast to listen to. Any fan of this man or the film, will LOVE this.

I`ve seen the mivie, so the soundtrack was what I expected.Published 17 months ago by Shelley A. Jensen
This score isn't so bad, yet it isn't so good either. The themes are overly repetitive and aren't complex. Read morePublished on July 7 2005 by J. Gauvin
Hunting and slaying monsters is boisterous work, and when you're on the job, you want a suitably bombastic soundtrack to reflect your every peril-fraught move. Read morePublished on July 13 2004 by Tom Knapp
With Mummy Returns and Tomb RaiderII I got the feeling that Silvestri was running out of steam. Both of those felt labored over and derivitive of other scores. Read morePublished on July 13 2004 by gordonblu
I like Alan Silvestri. I especially like the work he did on The Mummy Returns and when I heard about Van Helsing I was reseanably sure that he would be back to score the film. Read morePublished on June 29 2004 by Amazon Customer
