Such was the Crowe-Bramson reputation that they secured original songs by no less than REM (the janglypop of "All the Right Friends") and Paul McCartney (a playfully obtuse title track that would otherwise be a stand-out on any modern Mac album), wrapping them in one sublime surprise, original and otherwise: Sigur Rós's hypnotic "Svefn-g-englar"; the gorgeous languor of "Have You Forgotten" by Red House Painters; star Cameron Diaz debuting as a singer (under the name Julianna Gianni) with Crowe and wife/film scorer/Heart guitarist Nancy Wilson in Wilson's equally dreamy "I Fall Apart"; the Monkees' psychedelic "Porpoise Song", Radiohead's "Everything in Its Right Place" and Jeff Buckley's "Last Goodbye". Constructed as the playlist of some strangely liberated FM broadcast that never was, this soundtrackis also a collection that proves that the best part of any turkey may well be the stuffing--sonic or otherwise.--Jerry McCulley

Remake de son propre film espagnol, le réalisateur Aleiandro Amenabar s'est offert pour Vanilla Sky une américanisation à laquelle la bande originale n'échappe pas. Et c'est tant mieux ! En recadrant son œuvre originelle, le metteur en scène et le coordinateur de la compilation, Danny Bramson, tapent dans le mille. Chaque chanson colle au film de par sa structure musicale ou la signification de son texte. Accompagnant Tom Cruise dans sa quête intellectuelle, pour ne pas dire onirique, on retrouve R.E.M. – les bien nommés "All The Right Friends" et "Sweetness Follows" – ou encore Radiohead – "Everything In Its Right Place". Jeff Buckley, Peter Gabriel et les Chemical Brothers complètent cette compilation vanillée, laquelle termine son programme sur deux inédits absolument savoureux : la ballade "Vanilla Sky" de Paul Mc Cartney (nominé à l'oscar de la meilleure chanson) et surtout du petit bijou rock de la B.O.F., "Svefn-g-englar" du groupe islandais Sigur Ros. Love it - even if it is missing the most important song,

I love the soundtrack, but must admit I bought itfor one song, the one where he is on the roof with Sophia, and the one that is playing as he falls from the roof. I did find the name of it, though. It is "Ladies and Gentlemen we are floating in space" by Spiritualized. Album with the same title. I am surprised how much I like the Cameron Diaz song and have fallen in love with the Red House Painters and "Have you Forgotten". I find I am now obsessed with the Soundtrack as much as the movie. For some reason, that movie has really stayed with me. I pretty much know it word for word now.

I've never written a review and probably will never again but I couldn't hold back regarding this movie & cd. I cannot express how much I loved Vanilla Sky. I have watched it so many times it's sickening to some people. But every time I watch it it's like watching it for the first time. I don't understand why it didn't get great reviews. Maybe some critics can't handle watching a movie that actually makes them think. Anyway, I bought the soundtrack and I do agree with another customer in that when you listen to the songs they bring you right back to the scene. The only thing I was disappointed in with this cd is that not all of the songs were on it that were in the movie. I really wanted the song that played when David is first walking through the club with the mask. I also wanted the song on the roof before he talks to Sophia. Oh well. Regardless, I do like all the other songs on this soundtrack and if you liked the movie you will like the cd.

I am usually not the kind who'd write reviews, but in this case I just had to spread the joy. It is a great compilation, I love every track on this album..the diversity is amazing. A true must have for an eclectic music fan.
