Does exactly what it says - provides 2 extra USB 3.0 ports. Only fits 3 and a half inch bays without buying a faceplate adapter, which I did, thereby increasing the overall price. It is a toss-up as to whether you are going with this, or buying a USB 3.0 extension cable for the back. Best solution is to buy a case with more USB 3.0 slots in front, but that costs money.

It's got a form factor of 3.5", and I wanted to put it in a 5.25" bay; so I guess I'm dumb.

This really is plug and play! May 5 2013

I purchased the Vantec Front Panel to go into the 5.25” / 3.5" bay of my Cooler Master HAF-912 case.

The Front Panel is pretty much what I expected from the picture; a metal chassis with a plastic bezel in PC standard black; a cable long enough to reach the 20-pin connector in a full tower case, and a bag of screws (4).

The Good News:
Everything fit together well. The Vantec Front Panel fit into the adapter rails and front 3.5” adapter of the HAF 912 case; saving the cost of buying an aftermarket adapter. The unit's plug fit into the 20-pin connector of the ASUS P9X79 LE motherboard without any problems. After I installed the Front Panel into the bay, plugged in the unit, and turned on the computer; it worked. There is not much more that I can say then that.

The Bad News: None; there are no drivers or other installation procedures for the Front Panel.

Ending Thoughts:
The Vantec Front Panel is very cost effective, simple to install, seems durable, and fit into the 5.25" / 3.25” bay of my HAF 912 case. Now I have two USB 3.0 ports available up front at a total cost of less than $13.00. This has been one of the cheapest and easiest upgrades I have made to my computer.
It works. April 26 2014

I bought this to add USB 3.0 ports to the front of my older computer case and connect to an add-in USB 3.0 adapter card. The metal casing is nice and it installed in the floppy bay without a hitch (screws are provided). The cable is long (I have a mid tower case) and reached the adapter with room to spare. Since there are two separate cables coming out of the panel that combine at the connector, cable management is a little more difficult. I just coiled up the excess and used a tie wrap to secure it. I've tested both ports and they are working fine. Not much else to go wrong.

Works correctly, connector plugged right into my USB3 MB connector. Cable was long enough.
Has adapters for 5.25" drive bays.
Ports are installed right side up and good quality..
Another brand I had earlier the ports were upside down.
A Good Product that Works, but what a waste of space Feb. 10 2014

I have purchased 2 of these that I installed in two different Lenovo Workstation Tower computers; it works fine and does what it promises to do. It also is not all that expensive.

On the negative side, what a waste of space this is, with only 2 USB 3.0 ports in a 3.5" bay, and even worse, if like me, you used an adapter to put it into a 5.25" bay. I knew this going in and I only bought this product because I could not find what I really wanted, which would have been either 4 x USB 3.0 ports in a similar product using only one internal 20 pin connector, or 2 internal USB 3.0 connectors, or perhaps a 2 USB port model with a USB 3.0 SD card reader. Instead, all the other offerings I could find were deeply flawed either in design or because of many negative reviews.

For what it is, it works and it is fine.

No problems with this item. Installs and mounts easily, and it's deeper than a lot of other front-bay expansions so it has no problems being secured into place.

Great USB 3.0 transfer rates.
