Book Description

Aug 3 2009

Put the yum into your meals with more than 85 mouthwatering vegan recipes!

When Lauren Ulm went vegan, she faced the typical onslaught of questions from acquaintances
and more than the occasional wince from unsuspecting dinner guests. Vowing to
prove that vegan food can be decadent and delicious—and not a bland stand-in for 'normal'
food—she created a blog, veganyumyum.com. What began as a hobby became an obsession,
winning her not only legions of vegan and non-vegan foodie fans, but also the 2008 Best
Veggie Blog Award from VegNews magazine.

Here in her debut cookbook, Lauren shows that vegan food is anything but dull, with her creative
and quirky twists on everything from crowd-pleasing appetizers to indulgent desserts, from easy
weekend breakfasts to speedy weeknight dinners, plus holiday- and company-worthy fare you can
serve with pride.

Blueberry Waffles with Lemon Icing • Strawberry Rhubarb Coffee Cake • Stuffed Banana Berry French Toast
Sweet Chili Lime Tofu • Tahini Lemon Rice and Beans • Corn Fritters • Eggplant and Basil Stuffed Tomatoes
Creamy Tomato Barley Risotto • Crispy Sesame Kale • Moroccan Spiced Root Vegetable Home Fries • Smoky Miso
Tofu Sandwiches • Cannellini Bean Soup with Pan-fried Croutons • Chinese Broccoli Wontons in Ginger-Soy Sauce
Chipotle Basil Corn Chowder • Baked Mac and Cheeze • Gnocchi with Thyme Vinaigrette • Lime Peanut Noodles
with Seitan, Kale, and Carrots • and much more . . .

With most ingredients both readily available and budget-friendly, Vegan Yum Yum shows anyone
how to go gourmet the vegan way.

Review

"My one week experiment with veganism, inspired by Lauren Ulm's book Vegan Yum Yum, was a revelation to me. I not only survived, but thrived without dairy and meat in my diet... Vegan Yum Yum has a huge range of inspiring recipes. The photo of the seitan black corn bean burger is pure, classy food porn that makes its carnivorous rivals in the fast food ads look like cheap white trash. I was worried about what the desserts would be like as I'm usually a cream fiend, but I need not have feared as I fell head over heels for the blueberry grunts recipe."

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious and Inspiring May 7 2010
By Lee
Format:Paperback
The recipes are fairly simple and delicious. I have tried several and not been disappointed. The Hurry Up Alfredo Sauce on p. 195 has become a regular staple in our house and is absolutely scrumptious! Thankfully there is a photo accompanying each recipe.

5.0 out of 5 stars great vegan cookbook! Aug 14 2011
By luna
Format:Paperback
I picked this up a while ago, I was looking for a new cookbook and liked the title. I really like this book because it has a good variety of quick and more fancy recipes and doesn't use many obscure ingredients. I really love some of the super quick (like 10 minute!) pasta recipes, great for when I'm feeling lazy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unequal results, good photos Mar 17 2013
By Meg
Format:Paperback
I did not try most recipes from this book, but I thought some of the recipes I tried were OK while others were bland or had a weird taste. I would not depend on it for good results. I can't help feeling the gorgeous photos that illustrate every recipe are the book's strongest point, and that is not the way a cookbook should be. Also many recipes from this book, along with many others, can be found on the author's blog, so it's hard to see the point of buying the book, except to encourage the author.
