I have read and kept every Nora Roberts aka JD Robb. I am just finishing up her newest and am loving every minute. She can't write them fast enough for me. If you like romance, complicated characters, humor, fast pace action and don't mind some violence, buy and read. Her story lines are always amazing and having the same characters, Eve, Roake, Peabody, McNab, etc., just makes the reading more fun. Roberts does'nt just write about a new murder, but she works hard to have her characters grow with each book. You and they understand more about them. I hope she continues to write as Nora Roberts and JD Robb for a long time.

Love almost everything written by Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb and this is no exception. I've read almost the entire "In Death" series and still not tired of it although some scenes have become somewhat predictable. Really enjoy following the personal lives of the main characters as well as trying to figure out who the killer is throughout the story.

I'm a huge J. D. Roberts fan, and in fact have all of the In Death series. However, although, as usual, I was borne along by the story, making Summerset the prime suspect really marred my enjoyment. It just wasn't logical to think that Summerset would be killing people who had helped Roarke pin down the men who had murdered Marlena. It made no sense whatsoever, regardless of the seeming evidence. The last straw was Eve hauling him in after the episode at the Mermaid. Did he send her a message to let her know where the next murder would be, then make sure he would be discovered on the premises? This after the preeminent Dr. Mira stated unequivocally that he was incapable of violence. As far as logic went, this was, in my view, probably the worst of the series.

I have been trying to read all of the "In Death" series from the beginning and this one was amazing. It was so appealing that it took me only two weeks to finish. I love Nora and all of her books.

This is the usual quality read from J.D Robb. Love the futuristic twist she has given to these homicide books.

Vengeance sucks! - especially when you are at the receiving end. Naturally, J D Robb could not leave it at that but added various sub-plots that easily weave into one another and literally 'thicken the plot'. Essentially, the past is catching up with Rourke which also involves his trusted companion of many years, Summerset. Still not enough at that, the person seeking revenge contacts Dallas, Lieutenant Eve, directly - be that because she's a cop and, of course, Rourke's wife or simply as an additional challenge ... probably a bit of both. And everything points to Summerset as being the perpetrator ...
Still not enough. After dealing with Witchcraft, Wicca and the Occult, Satanism in the previous book in this series, J D Robb covers yet another controversial issue - involving religion this time round. Essentially, the perpetrator contacting Eve tells her that he is following God's command, issuing vengeance in His name. As is also often the case in cases such as these, the caller cannot quite make his mind up as to whether to rever Eve or call her a harlot. At times, he appears to do both - and not just in Eve's case, but directed at any female, alive or dead. Again, something that often happens, be that in film, on paper or in real life. And the author incorporates it all magnificently.
As to the social awkwardness of Eve Dalles, the woman, in this storyline - the main issue is the ongoing 'war' between her and Summerset, the fact that he and Rourke are close, and her ever deepening feelings for her husband. There is also some trouble with the press and the cop in Eve walks a very thin line between the straight and narrow as in the rule book and the need to protect Rourke.
All in all, another most fascinating tale and involving case where you can never be quite sure as to the body count until the very end. And, will Eve and Rourke come out of it all unscathed? Read the book and find out ...

Susan Ericksen's narration of the In Death series is outstanding and really makes the characters come alive. She reads the transcript with just the right emphasis on words and phrases. Eve, Peabody, Somerset, and Rourke are beautifully portrayed. I preorder all these tapes because I know the reading will be excellent.
