4.0 out of 5 stars Quality Single Oct. 23 2000
Format:Audio CD
This isn't one of my favorite Bjork songs, but I still think it's great. This is to be expected since Bjork is an outstanding vocalist and songwriter. The remix of VENUS AS A BOY loses some of the playfulness of the original version, while gaining a more gutteral intensity. It's a great variation on the sexual nature of this song. There are also some great b-sides on this single that are great to have whether your a die-hard Bjork fan or not. "Stigdu Mig" is beautifully sung in Icelandic and features a haunting acoustic guitar. "I Remember You" features some the most emotional, heartfelt singing I've ever heard. Just for this song alone, I would buy this single. Her voice ranges from a sweet whisper to a powerful yelp. Toward the end of the song, her voice quivers with a gritty quality. I applaud her for courageously expressing her raw vulnerability in this song. This is another masterpiece by Bjork!

5.0 out of 5 stars Always a classic! Feb. 22 2003
Format:Audio CD
This is one of the songs that started it all...back in the day...the phenomenon we call Björk. (at least, shown to the world)
It's filled with dreamy groove...intriguing lyrics...violins...exoticness...everything!;^)
The Anglo-American version is great as well, and it also features the haunting bonus track Stígðu Mig, and the sweet hark-back song "I Remember You", recorded with the same harpist who worked with her on the companion song "Like Someone In Love" for Debut.
There is also a groovy 12 minute tribal-sounding remix to Human Behaviour done by Underworld, and a fun non-toilet mix of "There's More To Life Than This".
So buy this irresistible and fun release, and fall in love!:-)

4.0 out of 5 stars bjork before she went crazy with singles Sept. 5 2000
Format:Audio CD
don't get me wrong, i'm a hardcore bjork fan, but i can't help but feel jipped by her newer singles... (mainly from post on forward). the venus as a boy single actually has a few harder-to-find songs not on her albums, and good, quality remixes. her newer singles are in abundance, but seem to lack the originality and innovation that older ones like these had. this is definetely a good choice for those who are sick of bjork's new marketing technique: release an album, release 2 or 3 bland remix singles of a song on that album, then a box set w/ video, and then a compilation album of all the remixes...i'm going broke trying to collect all of them!! but if you are in search of the essentials, this is one to have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Like rain out of the blue... Sept. 2 2000
Format:Audio CD
Bjork... mistress of originality... and a pretty funky weird chick from Iceland. "Venus as a boy" is a single featuring two unreleased tracks, an edited lp version of the title track, and three remixes of the title track, "There's more to life than this" and "Human behaviour". The album version and remixed edition of the erotic "Venus" are very lovely, the extra long "Behaviour" (over twelve minutes) keeps it interesting, but the true stand-out is the remake of an old torch song, "I remember you". Bjork's vocals slip comfortably around the age old sentiments, a lovely and unqiue effect.

3.0 out of 5 stars Blah Blah Blah Sept. 23 2003
Format:Audio CD
OK, I own fiftysomething Björk discs, and this is not one of my favorites. I am perfectly willing to shell out a chunk of change for a disc with only one good track as long as that track is great. This is not.
If you want good singles from <<Debut>> try the remixes disc, otherwise don't bother unless you are buying it just to fill a gap in a collection.
