We loooooove the very hairy bear. This book is the perfect balance of whimsical fun and almost poetic loveliness. Both the pictures and the words are fun and entertaining enough to make my 2-year-old laugh out loud, interesting enough to keep his attention, and at the same time, so simple and beautiful. I love all the pictures, especially the bear rolling with happiness in the blueberries, and the silvery fishes sleeping at the bottom of the pond. We'll take a walk through the seasons with the very hairy bear and his no-hair nose over and over.

My 3.5 year old loves story books with lots of illustrations and "Very Hairy Bear" turned out to be a big hit! The hairy bear who is blessed with lots of hair all over , except on his "no-hair" nose:) journeys through the seasons, and gets into all sorts of exploits - fishing for salmon in the spring, sticking his nose into a honey tree and munching on blueberries in the summer, looking for acorns in the fall, and snoozing through the winter.I love the rhyming style in which this story is written, e.g. ""A very hairy bear doesn't care if the squirrels scold. He eats all the acorns he can hold." The gorgeous watercolor illustrations by Matt Phelan enhance the narrative and make for fun reading. Highly recommended for preschoolers.
